Sandra Dallas has created an unforgettable tale of a friendship between two women, one with surprising twists and turns, and one that is ultimately a revelation of the finest parts of the human spirit.

"Great book"
What a wonderful book! Dallas is such a talented storyteller. Using an economy of words, she picks out the just right details and makes them vivid. The characters and the story itself are much like the quilts- you see beautiful pieces at a time until she lets you stand back and see the greater design. I've enjoyed this book more than any other in a long time.
The narrator is spot on too
"Wonderful!!!"
The story, setting, people, narator...all perfect. I've only written two other reviews in two years. This book deserves more than 5 stars. Well developed characters and a writing style that links many individual stories together. I wished it wouldn't end. I can't wait for more just like this. If anyone has suggestions, I would love to read your reviews! The Help is quite good and reminds me of this wonderful adventure. Have a great time!
"Prayers for Sale (Unabridged)"
Delightful, well written and fast moving with a surprise at the end. The author really developed rich and warm relationships with the woman characters.
"Guys could - should - will like this too."
I always enjoy novels with a wealth of detail about the historical setting. Without ever being political or polemic, Ms. Dallas paints a detailed picture, or more accurately, creates a fantastic quilt of interrelated vingettes of life in Colorado mining country for women of the last century - the century with years before 1900. Women who coped well with adversity. I recommend that guys enjoy this book and pass it along to their wives, daughters and mothers ... and to the guy in the next cubicle.
"Absolutely classic story..."
This was our first Sandra Dallas novel, and what a good one to discover her with. This time and place was and especially poignant place to depict the development--from scratch--of a rich relationship being built piece by piece. We loved it and have listened to more of her works. Great story.
Fast approaching retirement as a life long oncology nurse. I love family more than anything. I enjoy reading (audio only), movies, travels, paper crafting, photography, gardening and just being alive.
"Very Disappointed"
I choose my audiobooks carefully because it is the only way I can "read" a book. I selected Prayers for Sale because of the reviews and because I loved "TallGrass." I was so disappointed.
There were wonderful aspects to this book. Most all of the reviews cover those.
I obviously am in a minority but I cannot recommend this book. It was so slow. I found the main character rather "flat", not very likeable and someone I will soon forget. At times, I found her and her many "short stories" preachy and irritating.
I wonder if the narration was part of the problem. I had forgot I had sworn off Maggi-Meg Reed narrations after listening to Home Front. There was not a lot of range in her narration. Everyone seemed to sound alike.
Last words - I was happy when the book was done so I could move on.
"wonderful book"
a very entertaining book, well read and a wonderful moral to the story . I would recomend this purchase highly.
"Loved it"
Prayers for Sale was one of my favorite listens so far, in part because I absolutely loved the story, but also because the performance was done so well. While I listened to the book, I felt like I was listening in on friends as they chatted and gossipped. It was like, I too, was a member of the quilting group getting to know the women and their stories. I highly recommend this book.
Say something about yourself! I am so looking forward to reading the best of All gifts!
"Intriquing Friendships"
Prayers for Sale rank 3rd among all the audiobooks I've listened to so far?
When Mrs. Hennie tells Ned the history behind the "Prayers for sale" sign.
Maggi-Meg did a great job using voice, intonation and personality in characters.
I would take Mrs. Hennie out for dinner because she has a quality gift of telling neighborhood stories to inspire, cheer and unify friendships even during down moments.
a gread read!
"A New Favorate - Enjoyed every minute"
This is a well written story and was narrated with talent. I enjoyed every minute.
