Point of Retreat: Slammed, Book 2

I butterflying love Point of Retreat! If I could, I would bottle up the goodness of this book and pour it on my own life. I can’t even tell you how MUCH I love Will and Lake. Their love is the kind my dreams are made of.

My heart nearly broke in two for Lake in Slammed, and now the same can be said of Will in Point of Retreat. These two are no strangers when it comes to tragedy, yet they both remain strong through whatever life throws at them. They were both forced to grow up way too fast and take responsibility for their younger brothers. Their little family may not be traditional, but they’re happy, and they love each other’s guts. And that is definitely a sweet.

The way Will thinks about Lake, the way he talks to her, and really, just the perfect way he loves her, had me melting AND crying. I was so happy to get to read from his point of view this time.

I love this book. “Say it again.” I. Love. This. Book.

From here on out, I will read anything Colleen Hoover writes and you should too. Her writing style is fantastic and her characters will become a part of you. For me, Will, Lake, Caulder, Kel, Eddie, Gavin, Keirsten, and Sherry really exist somewhere and I hope they’re all butterflying happy.

Yes. I can recommend the story wholeheartedly, the audible version receives three-quarters of a heart in recommendation.

I usually read kindle version first and then purchase the audible version of books I really like and will read again. Point of Retreat is one of those. This narration is a huge improvement on the first volume, Slammed, and I think this new narrator does an excellent job of voicing both male and female roles. There are a few weak points though. In the beginning when he is expressing the main character's inner thoughts, it sounds pretty flat, without affect, and he rushes through the narration. The actual outer world conversations are voiced pretty well though, sometimes even excellently as the main character becomes increasingly frustrated with the obstacles that beset the relationship! But the narrator too often rushes the delivery and swallows a lot of words, slurs them together. If I had not already read the book several times, I would be unable to follow the author's train of thought. A few mispronunciations of the President's English (as opposed to the Queen's English) creep in, but nothing as egregious as those found in another narrator's reading of Slammed. I expect this narrator will do much better next time. He has the potential to deliver a performance rather than just a narration and I would take a chance on him as a narrator in future audible books.

Learning more about Will and Layken after Slammed and getting a better glimpse of the supporting characters.

The love shown between Will and Layken. Although they are young, they overcome so many obstacles together. A really touching story.

I like the audio version because it is great to hear the poetry performed.

Point of Retreat and Slammed are similar to That Boy and Beautiful Disaster. Just perfect love stories.

I'm not opposed to Kamran R. Khan. I feel he needs to breath and slow down. At some points I felt like he was racing to finish.

All of the above...it made me laugh, cry, feel anxious.

I hope to see what Colleen Hoover brings us next.

I really like the story being told from Will's POV. I also enjoyed the introduction of new characters to this story. This series has become a quick favorite in my audible library.

When Layken realized Will loved her for her and not because they shared similar family tragedies.

In Will's grandparents' laundry room when Layken kissed Will passionately and then told him she had a lapse in judgement.

Sometimes two people have to fall apart in order to get back together.

I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a good story that will captivate and become an all time favorite.

I love, love this book, the person who is reading it is terrible... it's making my favorite book really hard to enjoy!! he is to fast!! AAAARRRGGGGHHHH

The maturity the characters tried to maintain and how Will had to show Laken why he was really in love with her.

That's tough. I like the neighbor girl, but Will won me over.

Either the girl who did the first book or a different male. He just seemed to rush through the reading and there was no real depth added by him. In the first book, the slams were almost over emphasized. In here he seemed to speed read and force the story. I didn't care for this narration at all.

The story was great. It was predictable, but still a good story. It held a few surprises. The narration just really put a damper on my listening to it again.

I enjoyed the story line of Slammed and Point of Retreat! I can't wait for the next book.

Change of the point of view, book 1 (Slammed) written from Lake's POV and this one is from Will's POV. Also enjoyed greater depth of supporting characters. Audio was poor, voice and quality.

His voice, when relaxed is smooth - but 80% of the time he speaks too fast and without enough emphasis. His female voice is too pitchy and ikky to listen to. The general audio is poor with some background noise heard throughout the book.

Inspired to ensure my children are financially and mentally prepared for disaster and death - It was a pretty good life insurance pitch actually.
