Publisher's Summary

The Companions of the Ring have become involved in separate adventures as the quest continues. Aragon, revealed as the hidden heir of the ancient Kings of the West, joined with the Riders of Rohan against the forces of Isengard, and took part in the desperate victory of the Hornburg. Merry and Pippin, captured by orcs, escaped into Fangorn Forest and there encountered the Ents.

Gandalf returned, miraculously, and defeated the evil wizard, Saruman. Meanwhile, Sam and Frodo progressed towards Mordor to destroy the Ring, accompanied by Smeagol-Gollum, still obsessed by his "preciouss". After a battle with the giant spider, Shelob, Sam left his master for dead; but Frodo is alive, in the hands of the orcs. And all the time the armies of the Dark Lord are massing.

Since it was first published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings has been a book people have treasured. "Expertly Read"

I have listened to all 6 books in the Lord of the Rings series, and the narrator deserves an Oscar. He has done a brilliant job, bringing the story to life and keeping the interest going. Tolkien's masterpiece is best told in his own words.

    "last book in the series"

Audible have divided LOTR into six separate audiobooks. They aren't really separate books, but sections of the same book, so you need to read them in order, they won't make sense otherwise. The numbering is a bit confusing. This is book six of six. (start with "the fellowship of the ring book 1!)

Rob Inglis has a very traditional english voice and reads in a very measured way. I am a fan of Tolkien, and enjoy this reading, but if you have only seen the films, you may find it a bit slow.

    "I miss only one thing."

Now that I am done whit the book I miss one thing. Giv me my Appendix. I need that Appendix, its where you get your happy ending. I want my happy ending, I need it. I can say that I have read it my self, but it is missing and I was looking foreword to hear it. The rest of the book is good and I kan learn to love the nerater, but I rally miss the after math of the story, where Sam goos to Frodo after he have lived a long life in the Shier, that Legolas and Gimlin goos to the Haven in a boot they make them self.

    "Great Listen"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Lord of the Rings to be better than the print version?

I just love listening to these long epic stories. I've always found it hard to get through the LOTR books, but have easily go through all three 'books' in the last month.
