Your Mac Life, 1-Month Subscription

I have listened to the show since the last century, it has gotten better and better over time. Shawn has a great ability to interview people on seemingly boring subjects and make them interesting. Jay and Sly add a sober second thought to the show and humor as well. I would recommend this program to anybody interested in Macs and technology.

If you are looking for top quality talk radio content. A lot like Pinnacle (tech show featured on some Airlines) but a lot more entertaining and not as presumptuous.
It has quit a following and is excellent entertainment, for your Ipod for example. It is quit information heavy so it is kind of hard to doing anything else while listening to the show.
Usually there are some very interesting and smart guests. A couple of times a year it turns into a travelshow

I subscribed to this as a less-time-consuming alternative to the WSJ. I've been a Mac lover since 1984 but left the fold during the mid-90's. I just bought a new PowerMac after a long hiatus. What could be better (thought I) than a radio show with current Mac information? I think a radio show with current Mac information could be great, but this particular show is unbearably long and boring. I kept fast-forwarding, thinking, "This is just the preliminary stuff, and pretty soon the real show is going to start."

No such luck. This show is 20% commercials and promos (Another iPod Shuffle giveaway, but this time, only to diabetic college students), 60% unfunny jokes and uninteresting chat ("Hey, shout out to Bessie in Orlando!"), 15% content that I already knew (how a stock split works) or don't care about (obscure Photoshop tips), and 5% useful information. I really tried to like this show but just couldn't. Based on the reviews, a lot of people like it--but then lots of people enjoy Dr. Who, too. Count me out.

...or maybe drive around the office parking lot a few more times. Thanks for the many wonderful hours of being informed. The show is a "don"t miss" for any Macintosh user. What a concept have FUN and LEARN at the same time.

While this show prides itself on being a "news" show in a lot of ways, quite often it feels more like having dinner with a group of friends. There's a very conversational feel to the show that makes listening to it really enjoyable. Aside from having many important Mac personalities on to talk about the Mac universe, user input is solicted from the people who participate in show's IRC room - adding a real time flavour to show.
If there was one caveat, it might be that some folks would find the content (on ocassion) to be too much for younger listeners. But even at it's "worst" the show is always funny, and the reins are always pulled back before it goes completely off the tracks. This is a great listen, and well worth your money.

The publisher's summary says that this program will help you "make the most of your Mac", but that could only apply to about 10 to 15 percent of its content. If I was listening to it for free on the radio, I suppose that would be OK. But since I paid for this subscription, I guess I expected more informative Mac content and not so much wasted space at attempted humor and seemingly irrelevant conversation. Of course, I may have missed something because shortly after I began listening, my thumb was resting at 3 o'clock on my iPod's click wheel most of the time. I did find some of it interesting and when they were on a relevant topic they seemed to cover it well, but for the length of the program there just isn't much beef.

I've listened to this show when it was free, and god... it's horrible. Just listen to the free 5 minute priview to get a glimpse of what you're in for. The first 4.5 minutes are spent plugging various webistes and sponsors before actually starting the show. And once it starts, it's hardly worth the wait.

It's been a year since Your Mac Life first came to Audible. It now has 70 positive (4&5 star) reviews vs 7 negative (1&2 star) reviews. 147 people have rated the show for an average of 4.5 stars. Why? Because this show really is good.

The two Co-hosts, Shawn and J, open the show and set the tone of the night with chat and banter. J is a digital video professional, and Shawn is the broadcast professional with more than a decade of experience producing the best Mac Broadcast around.

Next, Peter Cohen, the resident Game expert, talks about the latest game news. Yes, Virginia, there are plenty of games for the Macintosh.

Now it's time for knowledgeable guests who have great information to share. Usually two guests per show, but sometimes three. Listeners can email questions to the show or jump into the live chat during the show to ask them.

'Sly Time' follows the guests. What is 'Sly Time'? Well, just think of Sly as one of your kooky friends working on that committee at work or school that is supposed to send out birthday and 'Get Well' cards. Plus, she gives away a cool gadget every week to the person that sent in the best 'Website of the Week'.

The show winds down with talk about emails that were received, a call-in segment, and announcing or selecting the prize winners for the countless contests and giveaways.

I wrote a review based on the previous format that Your Mac Life has evolved into. Now it is a show worthy of listening to. I said I would come back and review again if I was wrong. Any Mac lover will enjoy this show now.

I believe that there is no other team of passionate Mac users that could make a better show! I'm always entertained by the in depth interviews and news stories from the wide world of Apple and Apple users. Their tradeshow coverage is so well done, that you feel you have been there and had an opportunity to hang out with the crew as they interview representatives from the show floor. Having the IRC rooms going during the show really makes it an interactive experience. Listen live, or download to your iPod for "on-the-go" entertainment. I recommend it highly!
