"Bring back Bill! Loved his narration of "At Home"."
If you could sum up A Walk in the Woods in three words, what would they be?

    Classic Bryson.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The relationship between Bill and Katz.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Cloying...Bill Bryson is nothing if not dry, and I found Mr Roberts to be obvious and, sorry...annoying.

    "Brilliant as always"

I'm already a fan of Bill and read the book years ago, but this is how good it was - while doing a non-stop 100km charity walk, I saved this for the midnight to dawn section and it was so entertaining and engrossing that I pretty much forgot I was on a rutted track in the pitch dark and had been walking for 20 hours. All I remember of those hours are Bill's stories of preparing for and slogging up and down Appalachian mountains which not only made what I was doing seem really easy but I'm pretty sure made me the only person on the track who was laughing out loud. For that alone I have to give it 5 stars.

"There will never be a better AT book."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Hilariously funny book - loved every minute of it. So well brilliantly well read. I recommend this to everyone, all the time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Walk in the Woods?

Katz ditching half the contents of his pack on the first day. And Bill's understandable terror of BEARS!!!!!

Have you listened to any of William Roberts’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Down Under, Neither Here nor there, Made in America, Notes from a big country. All extremely well read, William Roberts conveys the humour better than Bill Bryson himself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

If you go into the woods tonight...Prepare for a Bear surprise!

    Any additional comments?

    Everyone should read this!

"Anyone can have the great adventure."
Would you listen to A Walk in the Woods again? Why?

I will be listening to this book again. It has so much detail, so many interesting facts that I feel I have hardly touched it with only one listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the little everyday details that made me feel I was there on the trail. And I liked the excursions off the track to the quirky history all around the Appalachian trail.

What about William Roberts’s performance did you like?

William Roberts made this book for me. He brought so much humour and character to his task. I've heard Bill Bryson narrate his other books, but he could never bring the professional style to the job that William Roberts achieves.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen to a chapter at a time on my train commute, but sometimes if I haven't finished the chapter I will wait on the platform and continue listening till the chapter ends.

    Any additional comments?

Inspires me to do an adventure walk myself. But definitely not the Appalachain trail - too hard! I liked his description of a walk in Europe though.

    "extremly enjoyable"

I really really enjoyed this book- it made want to walk at least some of the trail someday. Which is saying something given how lazy I am. Bill Bryson is one of the best travel writers ever and this is a shining example of his best work

    "Fairlyl Entertaining"

I liked the way the author interwove some natural history with his story but would have found it more interesting and more entertaining if there was more about his walking through the woods. Sometimes I found it a little slow when he'd "side-track". I didnt' find it as funny as other reviewers did.

"Makes you want to pack your bag and head off"

As a person who does quite a bit of hiking herself, I really enjoyed this book, it's funny, it's entertaining and it certainly makes you want to pack and head out for your own adventure. William Robertson's narrating is just excellent.
