Publisher's Summary

Now a major motion picture from Relativity Media.

A burnout at 35, months behind on his book, low on cash, and something of a loser, Eddie Spinola could use a shot in the arm. One day he randomly runs into Vernon, his ex-wife’s brother, and his ex-dealer. Now employed by a shadowy pharmaceutical company, Vernon has something that might help: a new designer drug that stimulates brain function.

One pill and Eddie is hooked. His book is finished within days; he learns and synthesizes information at a frightening rate; and he can go a long time without sleep or food. Naturally, he begins to play the stock market. But when Vernon turns up dead, Eddie makes off with the only stash of the drug in existence. Then come the side effects: black-outs, blinding headaches, and violent outbursts he can’t seem to remember.

Alan Glynn’s Limitless is a high-concept thriller for this Adderall age, and a haunting meditation on the allure and the curse of human potential.

    "Good Read!"

This story kept up my interest. It is one of those books that is hard to stop listening to. I really liked it a lot!
I also liked the narrator and thought he did a great job. I can see where this would make a good movie as well.

    "Good with a great Twist"

I don't know if it was the narration or the book itself, but there was a sense of superiority that was annoying. Also, there were some points in the book that I was saying, like you do in a movie, seriously? It just had a few too many unbelievable moments where the answer was quite obvious, and yet, the character seemed not to notice the inevitable. Overall, this is a very entertaining book. I am glad I listened before seeing the movie. Be sure and stick with it till the end. It has a great twist.

    "I was skeptical"

I was skeptical about watching the movie. We all know the story, great preview, sucks when you see it. After watching the movie however I thought "Wow, not that bad." then I thought hey wonder if there is a book. And you know the rest. Like most books its better than the movie and has a different ending.

The performance by Fred Berman is excellent and he really makes Glynn's story pop.

    In short. Get it!

    "Great Story and Interpretation"

This story is sort of a modern day Jekyll and Hyde, but rather than explore the downside of one's animal nature taken to its extreme, the most intelligent manifestaion is explored instead. Very interesting. The reading is pretty good as well, as the story takes place in Manhattan and the reader does have an NYC accent and does a pretty good Russian accent when interpreting one of the central characters. Enjoyable and I would recommend.

    "Entertaining, Slightly different than movie"

I felt that the narrator was very talented, and had a melodic cadence to his voices which was very easy to listen to for several hours. I also enjoyed his many and varied dialects and characterizations.

The ending was different than the movie. I liked the movie, and the novel equally well. They were different enough to both be interesting, but similar enough that the one seemed, to me anyhow, to add to the other.

"Not as good as the Movie!"

I love to watch a good movie, go to the book and get more depth and character development. Unfortunately the opposite is what i experienced here. If you love the movie, you will HATE this book. The movie added more to the story and character than I got from the book. And the ending in the book was HORRID!! Sign of a bad story is when a pivotal character is added in the last chapter to clean up a story. Here they ad the character without any information on who he is and how to rectify the situation, then END!!! I couldn't believe it...

    BEWARE!!!

    "Good Reader Great Story"

I purchased the book already watching the movie and as with most the book is way better then the movie. The ending was much more plausible. I could not wait for the ride home to listen to the whole way thru the book. The reader gets you into the story and keeps you going. I have already recommended the book to a few friends and would do the same for you reading this review.

"No, drugs really aren't good for you"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

With an ending substantially differing from the movie, the book posits a situation where a drug designed to enhancing cognitive ability is also mortally addicting. In the end, the protagonist dies, so it is realistic. The subject of drug use is presented in a way that makes identifying with the protagonist - why he turned to the drugs - very easy to understand - as I suppose you could identify with users of other controlled substances, given sufficiently challenging circumstances.

What did you like best about this story?

The story seemed quite realistic; quite plausible.
