Love in vein: listen to more tales of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter.
©2002 Laurell K. Hamilton; (P)2009 Phoenix
"The zombie-raising business gets slow in December, so Anita Blake is starting to see some oddball cases. She's got a neatly typed list of eight missing lycanthropes given to her by Marcus, the leader of the local werewolf pack, who wants her to find them. The trouble is, Anita's occasionally furry boyfriend Richard is locked in a power struggle with Marcus. Jean-Claude, master vampire of the city and Anita's other love interest, is getting jealous as well. To top it off, Anita has to solve some horrific murders and keep her bounty-hunting friend Edward from killing Richard and Jean-Claude. Hamilton alternates between funny and fearsome in this larky series about a monster hunter with a few dark secrets." (Amazon.com review)
"A great listen"
I started this series from the beginning after listening to almost all of the Vamp/Super natural fiction available. I have completed all the Vamp Academy,Georgina Kincaid,Sookie Stackhouse,Black Dagger Brotherhood,House of Night and The MorganVille Vampires to name a few. Being in between any new releases of my many favorites I was looking for anything to tide me over. I am Honestly VERY happy with this series so far. I just finished book 4 and plan to continue. I love the narrator though I see it changes later...I hope it doesn't change things for me. I like the sound effects and music, adds to the suspense. I have discovered that I enjoy the mystery,CSI crime scene and Super Natural combination.... I do miss a little romance but you can't have everything. I hope this helps someone, I always read the reviews and try to decide what I think I will like. Hopefully my points of interest can help another. This appears to be a LONG series and I hope to continue to enjoy them all. Keep you posted. EnJOY!
"Great new narrator"
I'm glad they have a new narrator, Cynthia was getting annoying. Additional sound effects add something different. Hope they do an unabridged of NIC.
"Greatest!"
I would definitely listen to this book again because it is one of my favorites.
My favorite character was all of the shape shifters and anita is the main character after all.
My favorite scene was at the Lunatic Cafe with the fights.
No
I would recommend you read the others that come before this first.
Read, Learn, Dream, Wonder, Question. Never Stop.
"Fairly good story, stupid sound effects"
The story it's self wasn't bad. It was enjoyable in fact. Except for the several occasions where the random sound effects would drown out the narrator. This book specifically looses nearly a whole paragraph of action due to the sound of a dog barking over the narrator.
"Intriguing and entertaining,"
I read the books and hearing the characters come to life was fantastic.
The introduction of Marcus and Raina at the cafe itself, with the mood setting and undertones, it really shows the authors abilities to engage the reader.
Kimberly Alexis really gives a voice to Anita, this story is written in the first person and she does an excellent portraying the emotions that Anita feels and move easily through the changing of characters.
Yes
Doing more then a couple hours of driving a day in rush hour traffic, this is my cure to Road Rage! lol Well... I don't get Road Rage but I had never been a fan of stop and go traffic. These Audio Books make it so I don't mind at all, in fact I sometimes feel I get home too quickly and have to sit in the car for another 5 minutes until I get to a part I can feel good about pausing. hehe Group Hugz!
"Great book"
I think the story is grate and the Narrator is getting better. However I think these books may be a little over priced compared to others I have already purchased. Considering I am paying $15 bucks a month for this service (the one token a month is a joke) and this series is 18 books long, I am not really sure it is worth it. This maybe my last series with Audible, I think I may go back to reading it myself.
"Love it!"
So far all the books have been great. Im actually a romance reader and thought thats what these were, but they are not. But Im hooked. Love them!
"Growing on me"
The stories are growing on me, I am becoming attached. Who knows I may even finish the series.
"Skip this if you are a fan of Anita Blake"
I started this series in the later books, and I usually go back and listen to the first books if I can. This was an instance where I should have left good alone.
The writing itself was not very polished on every level. The plot was weak and for the first time in a Luarell K. Hamilton story I found myself bored. Add to that the tedious self analysis Anita seems to do every single step of the way.
Quite frankly, if this was the first book I read for this series, I would never have read any others.
The single most annoying thing is Anita herself. Anita is such a cliche in this book, that I found that I couldn't stand her. She is SOOOO full of herself all of the time, I just kept thinking what an absolutely terrible girlfriend she would be. Everything was about her, constantly. This made the rest of the characters, especially anyone interested in Anita, seem so flat.
I will say that this review is bias because I'm coming from the perspective of having listened to the newest books. I will say that if you are a current listener to Hamilton's books and are thinking about listening to the early books, save yourself the heartache.
