Enter the enchanting world of the Carpathians, where dark adventure, mystery, and love await, and the desires of two daring hearts unite in one irresistible passion.
A telepathic hunter of serial killers, Raven Whitney helps to catch some of the most depraved criminals. But her work keeps her from getting close to others, and has drained her body and spirit. In need of rest and rejuvenation, she embarks for a vacation far from home.
Mikhail Dubrinsky is the prince of the Carpathians, the powerful leader of a wise and secret ancient race that thrives in the night. Engulfed by despair, fearful of never finding the mate who can save him from the encroaching darkness, his soul cries out in loneliness - until the day that a beautiful voice full of light and love responds, softly soothing his pain and yearning.
From the moment they meet, Raven and Mikhail are helpless to resist the desire that sparks between them. But just as fate unexpectedly brings these life mates together, malevolent forces threaten to destroy them and their fragile love. Yet even if they survive, how can these two lovers - Carpathian and human - build a future together? And how can Mikhail bring Raven into his dark world without extinguishing her beautiful goodness and light?

"Don't waste your credit!"
Well, I couldn't even get past the first 3 chapters...Don't waste your credit!
Sorry...
The only thing that could have made this a 4 or 5 star rating, would be to start over...
Short fuse
"Awful reader, couldn't finish it."
A better reader might have helped me finish the book
I usually like this author, but will not buy any read by this person
Tom Stechschulte often reads for this author and does an excellent job
Disappointment
The reader droned through the prose with the sepulchral tones one might expect from a very bad, old-fashioned preacher, but hammed-up the dialogue so that one might feel they were listening to a conversation between "Lurch" and "Tweetie-pie".
"Boring"
The best thing about this book was the narrator. Smooth as silk voice. The rest was just well, boring. Whiny heroine, arrogant male hero and just endless dialogue that really didn't move me emotionally or entertain me with the plot. I know that's asking a lot of PNR BUT JR Ward and Jeanine Frost seem to manage it.
"Fantastic!!!"
A narrator can really ruin a book and that is what Juanita Parker did to the first few books in the dark series. Abby Craden did a much better job and I really enjoyed listening to this book again!!!
"Could have been so much better"
To start with...the narrator was absolutely fantastic! I have a soft spot for Phil Gigante but Abby Craden was even better because she was able to do an excellent job even with the male voices. FANTASTIC!
The story line was good and could have been great. Truthfully, if I hear "possession" one more time - I am going to puke! If you're a female who enjoys being "possessed" by a male, then go for it. It irked me to no end. The heroine is smart but stupid, Mikael gentle but possessive. How idiotic. She kept saying she has a mind but acted like a stupid ditsy girl. He kept saying he wants to accommodate her independence but when it came down to it, it was "do as I say or I will take over and do it for you!"
I really like the story but was greatly annoyed by the two main characters. I had also listened to another Feehan novel (out of sequence) with a similar annoyance ( so, I haven't learned my lesson!) and this one seemed to be the first of the series. But, it was added very recently. It made the whole storyline a little confusing for me.
Overall, if you can manage the cons, there is none better than Feehan to write those steamy scenes. But, beware of being 'possessed'.
"Mindless, redundant drivel. Awful."
If you like your author to repeat themselves over and over for hours unended, this is the book for you. By the time I got to the end of it- I wanted desperately to find the creator of this disaster and slap her senseless. The constant drone of the characters poorly formed romance, under a layer of preternatural guise made me want to vomit. The only reason I finished this book is because I got it for free as my first credit purchase. The readers reviews and ratings are highly dissappointing and I hope to never encounter anything this incredibly awful ever again.
I love books, it's my great escape.
"The 2nd time around is just as good or better"
Christine Feehan is Awsome, I did not think she could make this story any better, but I was wrong. The narrator is great too, you will not be disappointed.
I really like thrillers. My favorite type of movie or book is one that has a unique perspective instead of a different version of the same story repeated by many different writers throughout the years. Many books are fine for a one-time listen, but to find one that's good enough to listen to again and again is a rare find indeed!!
"BLEECH!!!"
I couldn't even get through part one!!
The reader's voice sounded good on the sample, but when listening to the book, it would rise and fall -- and this was when she wasn't doing any of the character's voices!! She did pretty good on the two main character's voices, but she still kept raising and lowering her voice so often that I kept having to adjust the volume. This caused great distraction and eventually frustration!!
Then came the sex. Oh, brother!! I have never understood why authors want to get so graphic. Let the tension build, let them start kissing and then move on to another scene!! Unless you're into porn . . . I'm not and that's where I had to stop listening!!
Bleech!!!
"Good book"
Great start to the series - good storyline - took a bit to get past the long drawn out sex scenes but ffwd works well.
