Publisher's Summary

Dylan O'Connor is a gifted young artist just trying to do the right thing in life when, in a nightmarish instant, he is attacked by a mysterious "doctor" and injected with a strange substance. He is told that he is now a carrier of something that will either kill him...or transform his life in the most remarkable way. Then he is told that he must flee before the doctor's enemies hunt him down for the secret circulating through his body.

Stunned, disbelieving, Dylan is turned loose to run for his life - and straight into an adventure that will turn the next 24 hours into an odyssey of terror, mystery, and wondrous discovery.

By the Light of the Moon is a novel of heart-stopping suspense and transcendent beauty, a tale of how evil can destroy us and love can redeem us. This is a masterwork of the imagination in which the surprises come one after another and the spell of sublime storytelling triumphs throughout.

    "Superb"

My first Dean Koontz book was an accidental read many years ago and I couldn't believe that I had avoided him as an author for so long. I have to say that he is indeed a strange writer but his books strike a note with me that I find addictive. I would rank this book as definitely one of the best that I've read. It is sweet and endearing in the love of one brother for another and in the development of friends thru trust.

I've found that Koontz writes on the cutting edge of possibility and that is without a doubt interesting and a little scary in the possibilities. This book has a lot of those possibilities peppered in it.

I think I used to avoid his books because I thought they were horror books. I couldn't have been more wrong. I agree with another reviewer saying that if you only read one Koontz book, this one should be it.

    "Amazing."

This book has many characteristics. It's humorous, dramatic, sci-fictional, exhilirating. This book is highly reccomended so put it in your cart today! Dylan O' Connor's brother is a very humorous, traumatic, and very smart. I've read it twice already and it never get's old. By the way, this is my dads profile and I'm only 12, and I LOVED this book. If you're looking towards something more realistic, i reccomend Life Expectancy. My very favorite book ever.

    "Second best Koontz book"

This book has some great characters and a great plot. The powers are unrealistic, despite their fairly realistic origin (speaking as a neuroscientist myself). Some great humor is included and the story is both interesting and, unlike some Koontz plots, non-depressing. It is one of my favorite books.

"Perfect! A Perfect Story; Perfectly Narrated"

By the Light of the Moon rates among the best of the nearly 300 books I've purchased since becoming an Audible Platinum subscriber in 2001. I can also state that , as the buyer of 80% of Audible's Dean Koontz books, this is by far Koontz's best (i.e. story & narration combined). My only criticism is that Koontz ends the book with a setup for an obvious series and in 9 years has not written one. Its 3 main characters (one of whom is autistic) were given uniquely-different powers as a result of a scientific experiment. At the very end of the book they meet the 4th person in the experiment, form a group called "The Camel Club," and set their mission going forward, to use their 4 gifts to save people whenever needed. There's a love-affair left unresolved and the 4th member's contribution unexplored. On top of it all, they're all be hunted by a group whose sole purpose is to eradicate them. Upon its conclusion I immediately went to the Audible site to buy and download the obvious sequels to this 2002 book and assumed the first would be named "The Camel Club." To my great disappointment, I found that, in the 9 years since its publication, Koontz has yet to write a sequel to By the Light of the Moon. Please Dean; bring back the Camel Club!

This was a really well written book, of course! Dean Koontz doesn't disappoint us here either... This was my first listen of this book but, I had read it in my 20s and loved it... Still a great book in my opinion.

    "My First Audiobook"

This is the first audio book I listened to and I'm glad I chose a Dean Kootz novel. I've never read a Koontz novel before, but now I'm hooked. A very imaginative story [and excellently read by Scott Brick] kept me listening for hours at a time. A mysterious solution injected into two, possibly three, unsuspecting victims by a seemingly benign doctor/scientist producing unusual and awe inspiring abilities. They are chased by men bent on killing them. As they run for their lives, the affects of the solution slowly present themselves, but their purpose and potential are not fully realized until the ending. I highly recommend this book; it is one of my favorite Dean Koontz novels.

    "Koontz still has it!"

I had thought Koontz was beginning to get complacent with old familar characters; but "By the Light of the Moon" shows the characters and unique writing of Koontz is still there!

    "One of his best"

If you have never listned to (or read) a Koontz book, start with this one! As if it were a "best of Koontz" it has everything he does so well- fun, whacky, yet very human characters; humor; suspense; and the unusual. I couldn't stop listening to it. I recommended it to my wife, and she couldn't stop listening. I love everything he does, and this is one of my absolute favorites. I "flipped" for it!

    "Good Book"

A lot like you want from Koontz. Could use a little less humor, but overall a great premise. Winds up a little too quick.
