Keeping Promise Rock (Gay Romance)

Listening to this audiobook was very painful. While a certain amount of conflict and misunderstanding can help to fuel a romance, this isn’t so much a romance as a test to see how much pain and abuse the reader is willing to see two people haplessly put each other through.
The device of conflict in this story reaches and maintains a level of emotional turmoil on the characters that can only be called sadistic. The rare moments of tenderness the characters are allowed are short, few and far between. Like an occasional bucket of water on a forest fire there isn’t much relief.

If you enjoy gay romance novels then this book is one you just can not pass by.

Even though the setting of the audiobook made me think twice about purchasing the book, it was just the exact place and people that just made the story.

The characters may have their flaws, but the love, hope and sense of family throughout the entire book is pure joy and had me crying on many occasions. I cried at the very end, not just because of the ending, but because I felt so much a part of the characters lives and I had witnessed their growth and pain, it felt like that I myself as losing friends and family. I just wanted it to continue.

I immediately went out and purchased the paper back and the next installment of the series and Amy Lane jumped to my favourite author of all time.

This is one audiobook that I do not regret purchasing, not even for a second.

I am totally on this m/m romance kick right now and this just totally did it for me. I loved it! When Crick ran away to the ARMY... I was shocked...but when Crick was actually not a flamming queen in the ARMY I was so proud....

Being an ex-Army soldier myself, I have lots of friends who were queens, but they weren't all... flamming.. They were actually really tough guys, but they definitely where queens... So this just made me think about all of them.

The story seem so real... (my life experiences help me relate)... and Crisden narration just put this story over the top. I loved the smex scenes.;.. sooo real... Amy Lane seems to have hit or miss depending on who is narrating her stories. Any Crisden narration is a hit, but others are very iffy!

Great credit... don't buy, but wait for your credit... But this was soo good... Just started book 2 and it is not lookin so hot.. but then again, it is not Crisden narrating...

The tale of Crick and Deacon is filled with a plethora of emotions ranging from elation to despair. The writing style of Amy Lane is fantastic and Sean Crisden's narration added to the story. I have listened to this book several times and I still find myself laughing out loud and shedding a tear. A great story! One I highly recommend.

This made me cry over and over. I can't stop thinking about the men serving overseas and the hardships they and their families face. So glad I read this.

The sole reason I read this one is because of the Narrator...but I was also curious about the story as well...this book was GREAT!!
It had all the elements in a book that make you NOT want to put it down or stop listening!
The characters were so real b/c of the narrator and the writing...
I can tell this is another one that I wouldn't mind reading again, and again, and again!!

I enjoyed the ride along with their emotional and relational growth. The story arch is perfect, I felt like a part of their family by the end looking toward the future with Crick and Deacon. Oh, yes, sexual encounters were hot and realistic at the same time. Love it, highly recommend it.

This is a wonderfully written story of sacrifice, values and decency. You can't help but admire both of the main characters for what life throws at them and how they manage to carry on.

This novel has a little bit of everything: War, Horses, Gay Love, Biggots, Natural Disaster, and more. Amy Lane brings people from all walks of life together into one large extended family.

One thing I have problem with a lot of MM novels are that you really get to know one character really well while the other characters motives and thoughts are somewhat vague. I am not saying that it is not described, it's just not really expressed. For example, we get to know about Jory really well in (:A Matter of Time,by Mary Calmes)] on the other hand Sam not really. Well I suppose this could be said about a lot of romance novels. You get to know the heroines extremely well like a good girl friend, but the heroes not really.
BUT in this story we are invited to join both of the main characters' mind and hearts. It makes the story a bit longer and maybe dragging in some parts, but I loved it. I am looking forward to continue reading the series.
