This is a mesmerizing tale that takes us inside the equally corrupt worlds of the mob, the movie industry, and the casinos - where beautiful actresses and ruthless hit men are ruled by lust and violence, where sleazy producers and greedy studio heads are drunk with power, where crooked cops and desperate gamblers play dangerous games of betrayal, and where one man controls them all.

"The most entertaining read since The Godfather." (The New York Times Book Review)
"Skillfully crafted....it gives us Hollywood, Las Vegas, and the mob in one sweet dish." (Los Angeles Times Book Review)

"I HAVE TO GIVE IT 5 STARS"
I have to give it 5 stars since I have listened to it only 6 times so far and will probably listen to it at least once every 2 years. You gotta Love Puzo

"Interesting Insight"
This book starts off without the typical mafia storyline, but eventually gets into it, and portrays the role of the mafia in the entertainment industry. Lots of killing and grisly descriptions, as one would expect from this sort of story, so if you are squeamish about such things, would recommend to pass on it. Otherwise interesting insight to what could be, (and probably is) another role that the mafia plays in our everyday world.

"A Cheap Imitation"
I could hardly believe that this was written by the same author who wrote The Godfather. So many two-dimensional characters to keep track of; characters who I frankly didn't care about. The whole thing seemed like a cheap imitation of The Godfather written by some talentless hack.

"Great scheming, just okay character development"
This book was very well constructed and interesting but lacked emotional insight. I really enjoyed the plotting and scheming, but often wondered about the psyche of the characters.
Who needs the mall?
"Not a True Crime Story"
I thought this book was a story of true crime, so I was very confused about who these people were until about half way through. Obviously, I felt rather silly, but it was a good book nonetheless. I would recommend it to any friend who enjoys mafia fiction.
Yes. This book was was very different from The Godfather. I'd be inclined to give Mr. Puzo the benefit of the doubt and assume his other works can stand on their own.
Athena. Somehow the male author managed to make her sound like a sexy woman. He did a terrific job with all the characters and it would be a pleasure to hear him narrate additional books.
I would be OK with that, but only ONE. Tell us what happened with Cross and Athena, Bethany, Rose; that would be nice. Just don't beat it to death.
"Great book, alot of info Movie, Casinos"
Family Loyality Betrayal
First time and he did a great job enjoyed his read and the characters have real feeling
Last Don's Family
Enjoyed the book learned alot about film making and how they cheat investors and about the mind set of the Casinos
"I don't know why I can't get into it"
People who haven't read the godfather and just watched the first movie
I jsut couldn't love the characters like the ones in the Godfather book
No he was fine.
Disappointment.
Sorry Mario.... I love you
"Great Book."
I had listened to an Abridged version many years ago and I really enjoyed getting the "rest" of the story.
Cross of course. No need to ask why, it would not be a good book without him.
No this is the first one of his that I've listened to. Unfortunately for him (Joe Barrett) I was expecting the same reader that read the abridged version I had listened to before (Joe Mantegna), and was disappointed in how Barrett read it.
No Not really
"Well read, but"
Just wish he could pronounce the names better and was more natural with the dialogue
"Interesting but not the best"
I have read this book decade ago and decided to listen again. It may be that my perception of the world has changed, but I did not enjoy it as much as I did when I read it for the first time... But nonetheless, it was not fun to relax listening something which does not need much brain work...
