While attending a reception at a friend's estate for a controversial artist, Kate is nearly killed by an explosion. Once home, Kate is hit with the news that the prosperous fragrance company she has nurtured from the ground up is in jeopardy: It turns out that her late mother used the business as collateral for a huge loan, and full payment is due in three weeks. Kate's still reeling from this devastating news when her younger sister's volatile ex-boyfriend shows up and threatens her.
Then Kate receives a call from her best friend, Jordan Buchanan, who is hospitalized and scheduled for surgery in Boston. Though stretched to the limit, Kate immediately rushes to her side. Once she knows that Jordan is going to be fine, Kate abandons her calm façade and allows herself a major meltdown, doing something that is totally uncharacteristic: She has a one-night stand with Jordan's brother Dylan.
Coming to her senses, Kate returns home determined to get back on track and save her business. But the mishaps keep coming.
At Jordan's insistence, Dylan checks up on Kate. He's convinced that she's merely having a spell of bad luck - until he discovers how many people want Kate MacKenna dead.

"Fast paced and totally engaging book"
I truly enjoyed the characters. The book will make you smile and care what happens just what a great book is supposed to do. This book wont disappoint you
"Good Read"
This is a typical Julie Garwood book. One is immediately engaged into both the plot and characters. Love Julie Garwood.
"Too much romance novel"
I don't mind a little romance with my mysteries, but this was the opposite mix. A prologue takes away any reason for suspense in the first half of the book (we know something the heroine doesn't that explains what's going on). When two handsome, eligible men are introduced in the first few chps, you just know one of of them has to be a bad guy. Then there's the other set of suspects... and the only one who isn't made out to be a villain is, you guessed it, behind it all. I read a later book in this series and thought it was a much better mystery, so if you're looking for suspense with a touch of romance, try newer novels from this author.
"Enjoyed It, but why "Slow Burn" as a Title"
I enjoy Romantic Suspense books with bite to them--this one was good--could have been more bite though. Narrators can make or break book. I enjoyed the narrator also, however she doesn't do "southern" very well (the reason she got a 3). I know I have listened to her before and I know she has done a better job.
I started listening to the sample story about Jordan--she seems to be more herself in this one--she will probably rate much better, at least in my opinion.
