Castle of Wizardry: The Belgariad, Book 4

As I said before I think Cameron Beirle consolidates his footing better and better with each novel. This is no exception. I noticed fewer and fewer inconsistencies with his narration, particularly in this installment.
Having regained the Orb of Aldur from Ctuchik, the now-vanquished disciple of Torak, Belgarion and his companions must escape from the crumbling city of Rak Cthol, pursued by the soldiers of the maniacal king of Cthol Murgos as well as by the sinister arts of the now-leaderless Grolim priests. Only then can they return the Orb to the Hall of the Rivan King, which Polgara reveals must be accomplished by Erastide. From there Belgarion must set out to meet a destiny beyond
his imagining.

read these books as a teenager and listening to them 20 or so years later there still awesome

good story and really good narrator

Yes I definitely would. I recommend reading/listening to the previous books in the series first, but the story is engaging and very exciting. A great fantasy story of the classic coming-of-age and good vs evil. The character development is phenomenal.

All of the characters are so quirky and unique. The way they interact and behave is highly entertaining, they are all so great!

I loved listening to this book because the voices add unique depth to the characters. I'm just a fan of variety, and each character has a voice that matches his personality and compliments the circumstances so well.

The book is very long so one sitting is pretty impossible. But I definitely rushed through the book every opportunity I had.

Near the top. Between the story and Beierle's narration, the whole Belgariad and Malloreon are right up there with only one or two others.

Beierle had his faults--he gets a little carried away with his accents (and I think he misses the mark significantly on a few), but his narrations are the best so far.

However, I seriously wish the narrators would put in the time to get the name pronunciations right. I really don't understand how they can mangle some of them so badly. Here's something "straight from the horse's mouth" I found after a 15 second Google search.

I absolutely liked the story a lot, but what made it become love was the narration by Cameron Beierle. That man is TALENTED! 8 different accents and sooo much more. If you have never read the Belgariad, listen to it now. If you read it before and liked it, listen to it now and fall in love with it.

i have nothing personally against the narrator. however, everyone in the story seems to either have a slow speach impediment or they are closely related to pepe' la' pewe. i have read all of Eddings books as far as i know. and this particular series is by far my favorite. i just was not happy with the narration. the only voice in the whole series that really seems to fit the character would be Beldin. he was done to perfection. i personnally feel as though this would be a great story to have done "dramatized" with an all star cast..
lol, feel free to contact me for voice recommendations. please do not misunderstand me, the narrator would was fine whenever he was reading the "narration", it is only the voices that ruined it for me.

I love these books and re-read them often. I decided to purchase an audio copy so that I could multi-task. The narrator however, is very disappointing. He is decent for the narration, but his accents & pronunciations are inconsistent, he mispronounces words and his vowels (git instead of get, for example) are awful. With a better narrator I would give it 5 stars.

This series is very well written with a lot of interesting twists. The prologs tend to be a bit wordy and the names tend to be hard to pronounce but once you get through those things the stories progress rapidly with excellent well written story lines. The books get better as the series progresses.
