Bond discovers that Dr. No is working with the Russians, and that they have supplied him with several million dollars worth of equipment to sabotage nearby American missile tests. The doctor is a worthy adversary, with a mind as hard and cold as his solid steel hands and an obsession for power. His only gifts are strictly pain-shaped.

"Masterful...beautifully written." (Sunday London Times)
"[Simon Vance's] polished voice is an enchanting accompaniment to Fleming's exotic settings and stories. His English accent is as smooth as a dry martini, shaken not stirred....Listening to these unabridged novels is more subtle than watching the films, but ultimately more rewarding." (AudioFile)
Retired teacher of literature with an interest in religion and in science and in history. I have loved reading for 50 years.
"A classic James Bond thriller"
Ian Fleming wrote some fabulous thrillers with James Bond at the center. Doctor No is one of the better stories. The plot is at least feasible, although it is somewhat dated now, given that the story is 60 years old. Still, I enjoyed the audio as much as I did the print book which I read 40 years ago. Fleming keeps the listener on edge with his sharp eye on leading the listener into suspenseful situations. Of course Bond is victorious in the end, but the voyage is very entertaining.
"Classic bond done in a great sounding voice"
James Bond.
If you have only seen the movies then you really need to download this book.
It is well done and the story lends itself to the format. A great way to start your Ian Flemming addiction because once you start you have to read them all.
"Impeccable"
The action-oriented espionage classics by Ian Fleming are always an enjoyable read, or in this case, listen. The audio is great, and the narrator's voice and accent create an enthralling, believable production of the literature.
"Another great Bond"
Dr. No one of my favorites. Great job by Simon Vance, bond series is great.
I enjoy counter-terrorism, westerns, historical fiction, detective mysteries, and old school comedy like "A Christmas Story".
"Classic Jimmy, my man, the legend, Bond"
What can I say...it was fun. It was the first Bond flick and I saw it at the movie theatre when it first came out when I was nine years old(1960). The audio book did not disappoint. I enjoyed totally.
"Terrific narration and a rollicking good story"
While I've seen every James Bond film, this was the first Ian Flemming novel I've been exposed to. I enjoyed the story immensely, and was struck by the narrator's skill at bringing these improbable, fruity characters to life. Highly recommended diversionary listen.
"A calm adventure."
Simon Vance is a great reader. Thankfully he has been the only voice for 007 to this point. Makes it real easy and familiar to read... a continuation from book to book.
Still enjoyable as a 007 book. Least enjoyable was the let down of the quickness of the story. It was over way too soon... only one quick adventure and a drawn-out ending. Sadly, that's audio books for you, though. You'll not know how many more pages are left (few or a lot) and then you hit the end and cannot believe it. That's how I felt with Dr. No. However, it's difficult for a late writer to adjust his further works.
Only listened to Simon Vance in the 007 series. Again, the familiarity from book to book makes 007 more realistic... believable. He's never been rushed while reading, and, as he is an entertainer, he can deliver the lines with perfection.
I COULD have listened to it in one sitting. And yes, I could have easily enjoyed it in one sitting.
"A Terrific Listen"
James Bond stories are always exciting and fun to listen to, but what I really loved was the character, Honey Child, and her relationship with James Bond.
I loved Honey Child especially. Her street smarts along with her innocence were charming. Simon Vance gave a really believable presentation of her character.
This is the first James Bond novel I've ever listened to. I thought the characters were presented so much better than in the movie, and the plot was exciting.
"One of the better Bond books."
Great villain/setting.
Bond is closer to death in this book than any other. A couple of old characters from Live and Let Die return for this adventure.
Definitely Bond.
Hard to put this one down.
I recommend all of the bond books, especially read by Simon Vance. This is certainly one of the best ones.
"Dr. No is a YES"
It has been years since I read a 007 Book. It was nice to get back to the original stories rather than the Hollywood Twist that they have given the Fleming novels. I love the movies and enjoy them but it is nice to get back to the original source materials. Mr. Vance's reading of the books was perfect for the style and setting of the original story line. It is a bit of a different Bond than we see in the latest moves and takes you back to the original man with his fears, short comings as well as his style, bravery and "Bondness."
