Now, in Antrax, as the crew aboard the Jerle Shannara is attacked by evil forces, the Druid's protege, Bek Rowe, and his companions are pursued by the mysterious Ilse Witch. Meanwhile, Walker is alone, caught in a dark maze beneath the ruined city of Castledown, stalked by a hungry, unseen enemy.
For there is something alive in Castledown. Something not human. Something old beyond reckoning that covets the magic of Druids, elves, even the Ilse Witch. Something that hunts men for its own designs: Antrax. It is a spirit that commands ancient technologies and mechanical monsters, feeds off enchantment, and traps the souls of men.

"Good story but only Abridge"
I really wanted to purchase the unabridged version of this book. Since one was not available, I had no choice to buy this one. Hence my overall rating is two stars. I feel the abridge version cuts out too many important parts of the story
Using logic, one can easily figure out the ending. Since it is part of a series, there is an element of continuation of the story and not really an ending.

"Lots of words, but mostly boring."
Terry has done the one thing every writer fears doing... he's dulled. His writing used to be full of such life, his stories dripping with adventure. Where's it all gone? The store-line perhaps is brilliant, but the follow-through is just sad. He skims over sections that could have made great stories and settles down for several chapters on scenes that don't help the plot, instead just contain interesting moments. As soon as a scene starts to get into plot, he drops it and begins to narrate it to us as if we're children who can't understand.
I've always love the shannara series, and the great work he's done in addition, but this is just not his normal stuff.
If you've not read anything else of Terry's, don't read this first or you'lll never come back.
"The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Antrax"
It took a long time for character development and for such a short book, the plot moves quickly. Once I was up to spped, I loved it. It took two different time to get into it however
"If you like Fantasy, you'll love this!!"
I've read the hardcopy of this series over the years and always enjoyed them. This is my first 'audible' version. Real interesting variations on the pronounciations, my interpretation was very different at times. I was also suprised at how much I enjoyed the story without reading. I've already signed up for 'Ultimate' and have downloaded the next in the series.
