"Ambitious, daring, studded with facts...as spectacular as any thriller ever." (Minneapolis Star Tribune)
"good book, but disappointing abridgement"
The story's great, the narrator is very good, but the abridgement is disappointing (although someone who has not read the book would probably enjoy this abridgement, despite the fact that many of the best characterization bits are missing). The completely unnecessary musical interludes are horrible - very melodramatic, corny, quite distracting.
"Patriot Games"
If you like Tom Clancy this is a terrible abridgement. It leaves all the important parts out.
"Excellent On All Counts"
Anybody who is an action adventure or Tom Clancy fan should enjoy this book, which is non-stop action in a realistic context.
Jack Ryan is a main character in a series of Clancy books. The character is real, human, and personable, with a family and children. He is an unlikely hero who always finds himself in situations where he comes to the rescue.
I have always enjoyed Martin Sheen's voice. In this case, he performs all the characters well, but I particularly enjoy his characterization of the main character, Jack Ryan.
