Welcome to humanity’s new war: silent, high stakes, and unseen. This is a life-or-death mission for ONI’s black-ops team, Kilo-Five, which is tasked with preventing the ruthless Elites, once the military leaders of the Covenant, from regrouping and threatening humankind again.
What began as a routine dirty-tricks operation - keeping the Elites busy with their own insurrection - turns into a desperate bid to extract one member of Kilo-Five from the seething heart of an alien civil war. But troubles never come singly for Kilo-Five. Colonial terrorism is once again surfacing on one of the worlds that survived the war against the Covenant, and the man behind it is much more than just a name to Spartan-010.
Meanwhile, the treasure trove of Forerunner technology recovered from the shield world of Onyx is being put to work while a kidnapped Elite plots vengeance on the humans he fears will bring his people to the brink of destruction.

"Sith Lady"
Yes I would. I will do it to pick up all the little story threads that lead off into possible future story archs and those that fill in gaps about the back stories of several characters.
Admiral Perengowski in particular piqued my interest. She is as bad as any Sith Lord that ever graced the pages of Karen's other novels. Karen dealt with the Elites nobility as well as anyone. They are truly noble within their culture and in battle.
Admiral Perengowski, easily!
Yes, I get upset by the constant use of "chinconi"! Next time how about a coversation with a GI before you record! It's CinC ONI (SINK ONI)! It is Commander in Chief, and is not an Italian word. I grate my teeth everytime he uses it. After 20 years of service, I find that I'm not so flexible on the lexicon.
Quietly awaiting the next installment in the series. I could use a timelime to help bring things together for me.
"What was the Publisher thinking?"
The Editor for this book should not be in the position that they are in after having let this through to the public to be available for purchase. I should have read the Amazon and iBooks reviews, which skewered the book. Performance was well done, but the book appeared to have been very poorly written - with flits back and forth through time and scenes - with absolutely NOTHING holding everything together. It is almost like the author wrote random paragraphs in the Halo theme - and then submitted the book to the Editor who simply let it through without consideration to quality.
Or Karen Travis is a horrible Author and should never be allowed to write another Halo book. The Greg Bear books were amazing - and those were the only reason I bought this.
Dear Publisher: don't let Karen Traviss ever write a book again - PLEASE! Or let her write one, but just don't make people pay for it.
Sorry to sound crass - but Karen Traviss really had it coming. My teenaged daughters could have done a much better job.
"Over all great writing!"
Yes! The way the author writes really make you want to listen again and again!
No comparison these are in a class of there own!
No. But he really embodied who Kilo 5 and the others are to me!
The whole darn thing!
This is one of the best books i have ever read and i cant wait for what he has next!
"A great story that is able to go on and on."
This is the basis for a great story
Can't wait for the next book in the series to be written. The author is a skilled and imaginative writer.
"Awesome"

"magnificent work"
One of the best stories i have ever heard. It is captivating and strong
My favorite character is bb because he has so much personality for an ai program and he is so different from the others mentioned so far
Phillips is my favorite do to his tenacious curiosity and his stubborn nature it causes to be the most understanding character in the hole story
One man is searching for the truth behind an ancient being but is he ready for the trouble it will ensue
"More Halo Story unfortunately from horrible author"
The author is terrible. I dont care what she wrote before or her supposed experience. Her books are the only Halo books I cannot read/listen to once. I only read them for the Halo story updates.
Halo books from any other author
Narator does a good job. No problem with him.
Not with the author.
Bring back Eric Nylund!!!!
