Famous, all-encompassing, passionate, but ultimately doomed love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and the people around them. Today considered a classic of English literature, Wuthering Heights was met with mixed reviews when it first appeared, mainly because of the narrative's stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty. Wuthering Heights has also given rise to many adaptations and inspired works, including films, radio, television dramatisations, a musical by Bernard J. Taylor, a ballet, three operas (respectively by Bernard Herrmann, Carlisle Floyd, and Frédéric Chaslin), a role-playing game, and the 1979 chart topping song by Kate Bush.

"Five stars for the wonderful Emma Messenger"
I have waited to read this book for years now, but never found the time or patience to do so, as my native language is German, and even though I do read in English every once in a while, it is just more demanding and time consuming for me. I therefore often go with a German translation. This classic though needs to be read in the original, I thought.
To now have a talent like Emma Messenger's read it to me is simply wonderful. Her voice is most pleasant and has the range and variety of an entire orchestra, she's extremely good with rhythm, her emotional skills and delivery are excellent, plus she never lacks to let humor show through where it is appropriate. I highly recommend having Emma Messenger read to you and I'm excited to hear more of her. I can very well picture her doing something like Truman Capote's "The Grass Harp". I doubt there's much she couldn't do.
"Very well narrated"
This narrator really adds to the audio book experience through the emotion she brings to the story. Recommended!
"An enjoyable way to "read" a classic"
I was enveloped by the story. I listened on my way to work and realized 3 miles past my turn i had missed it. I was so engrossed.
Heathcliff, I had sympathy for him, even thoguh he was so cruel and horrible. I felt sorry he had such a terrible begining to his life.
no this was the first time I had heard her.
I was shocked several times by turns in the plot, by the cruelty of the characters and I had several audible "OMG" moments.
"one of the best novels of all time"
one of the best novels of all time and very well narrated. one that you can listen to over and over.
"Why??"
I have always wanted to read Wuthering Heights, it's a classic right? So I suggested it for my bookclub and I was horrified. I hated the characters, the storyline was so depressing, the children horrible...I tried to find something good in this "love story" but found none. I understand that my opinion hardly matters but I am warning other young people who perhaps haven't read this book yet, to prepare yourselves for the unexpected. Do not expect Jane Austen, this is very different.
The darkness and oppressive nature of it, I felt my chest tighten while reading it. It was not enjoyable in the least.
The narrator was fine, I was able to distinguish the characters and the accents were wonderful, but sadly even good narration could not bring life into such a sad tale.
"Liked the movies I've seen better, book was ok."
It ranks 7 out of 10.
There are too many to mention.
There were many, can't choose just one.
When Heathcliff was found dead and when Cathy was dying and he visited her.
I will listen to this book again.
"volume control"
I hadn't read this story in over 25 years. I don't remember there being so many mean characters! You'll also want to keep your hand on the volume control. The narrator dips from a whisper to shouting in your ears quite frequently! I almost quitted the book a couple of times, but had to see hear it through.
I know all about myself - that's why I want to find out about everyone else!
"Classic Story"
This falls into the Jane Eyre category, and I really enjoyed this deep yet elegantly cruel long time standing classic, Wuthering Heights. Emma Messenger (always liked the name Emma) did a nice job. Her male voices are distracting and not as good as her female voices, but the story itself is so amazing, I think as long as a narrator does not annoy me with nasal or high pitches or too much mouth smacking, I can enjoy it. I would have to say that reading it is a more intimate medium than hearing this audio book.
