Very humorous story about an average girl who finds herself thrown into a who dunnit mystery, while she is trying to prove her boyfriend is innocent. It is similar to a Stephanie Plum mystery, where all the bad things happen to Maddie and she is the only one on the right trail. The wittiness of the characters is fun to read and the story moves along at a great pace..... I am going to purchase the next book today.

Where does Spying in High Heels rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Is it the best book ever? No, but its not meant to be. It is a cheerful, fun listen and I am very glad they put it and 3 more on Audible. Bring more like it!

A fun listen, similar to the Stephanie Plum novels, but can stand on its own merit. I enjoyed it enough to listen to more of the series.

    "Cute"
Would you listen to Spying in High Heels again? Why?

Once was enough, cute, but not a lot of depth.

If you’ve listened to books by Gemma Halliday before, how does this one compare?

No, first one. Probably try another one in the future.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

neutral, didn't dislike, not overly enthused.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

woman bumbles her way through a mystery

    Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a cute, light, story with an amateur detective, try it.

    "Very light cozy mystery"

This is a very light hearted cozy mystery. Maddie Springer has ceated a ditzy and silly heroine in Maddie Springer. Maddie stumbles through the mystery making silly assumptions and decisions. There was too much emphasis on her personal life. At the end Maddie does manage to figure things out.

    "LOL"

At first, I considered stopping at chapter 3 or 4 because I found Maddie’s decisions and behaviour embarrassing – those of a stereotypical dumb blonde. However, Maddie is self aware enough to know of her foibles & that makes them easier - so I ploughed on. I am glad I did; parts of this story are so funny, I laughed until I was nearly crying. This degree of enjoyment from a book doesn’t occur very often. For this reason alone, I would recommend the book.

Luckily the book has more to recommend it than just humour. Characters have their idiosyncrasies that make them enjoyable to get to know. Dana makes a great best friend. Jack is character who is both a no-nonsense – ‘stay away & let the cops do their job’ cop and a good guy with some social skills that allow him to be sympathetic to the chaos Maddie stirs up.
I will be trying book 2 in the series to see if the author is able to include this degree of humour in Maddie’s next adventure.

Would you listen to Spying in High Heels again? Why?

I plan on listening to the whole series. I really like the protagonist. She is not a whiner or helpless. She manages to try to work out her jams herself but is smart enough to know that she is in over her head. A little like Stephanie Plum I found myself laughing out loud.

I love audibles books. I drive alot almost everyday so I listen to books on my way! I really like romantic suspense mysteries, but hate to read stories that constantly have the word God like its just another word intead. Also in the romance department I really like the romance description kept to a minimum and leave a few thing to the imagination. I like books with a sense of humor too .
