Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and Ryu — Jane’s bloodsucking boyfriend — can’t let a major holiday go by without getting all gratuitous. An overwhelming dose of boyfriend interference and a last - minute ticket to Boston later, and Jane’s life is thrown off course.
Ryu’s well - intentioned plans create mayhem, and Jane winds up embroiled in an investigation involving a spree of gruesome killings. All the evidence points toward another Halfling, much to Jane’s surprise.

"Okay, but there's a lot better out there."
The characters are just so predictable and cliched. This really is a romance novel with a supernatural twist,
Meh.
The narrators voice does suit the character, but that doesn't make it great to listen to.
Overall, although this is one of my current fave genres, after two of the series I just can't get past the predictability of the plot and stereotypical characters. The premise is intriguing but it's just so painfully girly.
"Not a pre teen book"
I almost missed this book because of the cover on the first book. And the voice of the reader being so soft and young sounding. I quit the first book in the middle of the first chapter. I am so glad that I went back and finished the first book because the second and third were so good can't wait for the forth book in this series.

What I Loved: Anyan! I really love this Barghast as he is such a strong, sensible yet extremely intriguing character. The action, story, and on-going events really stepped it up in this book. It was a great follow up to the first part of the story. I enjoyed getting to know more of the players in world of which Jane is part of and also loved that her ultimate pull is back to the place she grew up.
What I Liked: It might be because Nicole is a teacher but education always seems to crop up in her stories. I like how she makes it cool to be smart and a reader. While this may not compel the story forward, it does prove that you can combine your interests and your stories together.
Complaints: To much Ryu! Though to be honest it is just because he reminds me of the sleazy bad boy that you date for awhile to get over that bad boy phase.
Audio Specific Review: Narrated by Kate Reinders and she does an excellent job. I really like the way she voices each of these characters. She even does a great job on the guy's voices!
Why I gave it a 4: The reason I give this book a 4 is because of the action, story, and how Jane ends up at the end of the story. Without giving away anything, let me just say the ending really does make you realize that Jane is really holding her own despite everything that has been thrown at her!
Who I would recommend this too: Urban Fantasy readers who like the chick-lit type of tilt. These are a bit lighter than very dark Urban Fantasy novels.
