Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike's defamation lawsuit.
Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family's lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.
Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one... last... thing?

"Harper brings her trademark humor and biting social comedy to this hilarious tale of heartbreak and romance, a novel that should be on the summer reading list of every woman who has been wronged." (Booklist)
Molly Harper is the absolute QUEEN of hilarious snark!!!! Her whit is one I can totally relate too and I LOVE the narrator, Amanda Ronconi does a PERFECT interpretation of Ms. Harper's whit. In my humble opinion, there is not a better reader for Ms. Harper's books. Ms. Ronconi has her sense of humor down to a tee. This is a funny and enjoyable story about a very serious subject, DIVORCE. This is a story where the main character, Lacey ends up putting her foot (feet) in her mouth right up to her fingers, leaving only enough space to put said fingers to good use announcing her husbands affair and their pending divorce, to her husbands family, friends and his clients, when she puts her writing skills to use writing in the Accounting firms monthly newsletter (that her husband, Mike had put her in charge of ) as her platform for the big announcement.
Still snarky, but not all fun and games for Lacey who is forced to grow up and face some of the biggest decisions of her life. I love the character growth and the "there is LIFE after divorce" message that I got out of this book.
I am a big fan of all 4 (so far and hoping for more) books that Ms. Harper has written. Give her a listen and if this type of book is not your "cup of tea", try her Paranormal Vamp/Werewolf stories from her previous books, "Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs", "Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men" and "Nice Girls Don't Live Forever". If nothing else.....give the sample a listen.......I was HOOKED after the first snippet!!!!
BRAVO again Ms. Harper. I am and will remain a big fan of you snarky sense of humor!!!!
Ok, I'm not one for liking romantic books, especially those for adults, but this one is so laugh-your-butt-off-funny!!! I listened to it at work and on several occasions I had to stop what I was doing because I was laughing so hard that I had tears streaming down my face and I just wanted to share with the girls around me! I honestly though that I would not like this book just from reading the summary alone, but gave it a chance after reading what others had to say and I'm SOOOO glad I took a chance on it. And I'll be listening to more of Molly Harper's books!
With no prior knowledge of this author or narrator, the story sounded like it could be interesting, I was hoping it didn't wallow in self pity. Well, there were times I laughed hard enough to get the hiccups. A few times I was wheezing and speechless. Some characters were a bit short on, well, character. But it was very funny, the way things are when they hit so near the mark. If you want a Summer Read, even in the depths of winter, get this one!
I am a passionate devourer of chocolate and books. I also listen to audiobooks and drink chocolate. When I die, I don't want to be embalmed!
This was a great story! I listened to this with my husband. When the story ended he said "Now that's a good book!" This is a story about a married woman who finds out her husband is cheating on her and what she does about it! I think she was definitely trying to prove the pen is mightier than the sword when she sent her revenge letter out to her husband's mailing list. This book contains lots of that snarky humor I have come to enjoy with the Molly Harper books.
My husband and I listened to this while I was in the hospital recovering from the birth of our first child. This book is so much funnier than I expected - to the point where I was physically uncomfortable from laughing too much!
I highly recommend this to fans of humorous romance or "chick lit" novels, or for anyone looking to escape from it all for a while. It made those first nights with our little one even more enjoyable!
I love books, it's my great escape.
This one has some real LOL moments. I loved it. I am really starting to like this author, she is wonderful. The narrator is awsome she really brought the story to life..
This book make me laugh so much that I know people that didn't know I was listening to an audiobook probably think I am crazy. I keep books on my iPhone and listen when working out so I know all the folks at the gym think I'm a loon. However, I don't care because I haven't gotten a laugh like this in a long time. I don't think this would be good for a guy but if you are female, and particularly one that is recently divorced you will love this (although I am happily married and I loved it.)
A lot of fun with a little romance and light sex mixed in. I really enjoyed.
Ms. Harper reminds me of early Janet Evanovich books - without the mystery. Or the guns, crazy grandmothers and criminals. She is a genuinely funny author and that is actually a rarity. Her characters, and they are real "characters", are a mess, they make stupid decisions, which they compound by worse choices. But you have to love them. Even the ones you aren't supposed to love.
This is a very light, quick but satisfying read and I recommend it for anyone looking for a few escapist hours. I'm not usually a big chicklit fan. But I enjoyed this book so much that I broke a longstanding promise to myself and read her next series, even though they were about vampires and werewolves, two fantasy genres I avoid even more than chicklit. Guess what? They were funny and engaging too. I hope she continues to write and expands her genres. I will continue to read.
The narration was very good as well. The voice and the author's vision matched well together.
This book is everything you could possibly want in a romantic, light audio book. I really enjoyed it and was sorry to see it end. It definitely kept me entertained.
