Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career - and her confidence - after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O’Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O’Connor’s friend and chief of staff...and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can’t afford - especially when the bodies keep piling up.

"[L]ightning-quick and intense. This novel is “The O.C.” does D.C., and you just can’t get enough.” (RT Book Reviews)
I read so I can write
"AMAZING!!!"
I am so impressed with this book I am almost speechless. The strong strong character relationships carry a powerful mystery that kept me guessing until the final chapter. This was a great beginning to a series. I am hooked and going for the next book.
This was my first Marie Force book and I bought it on the current special. I am so glad I did.
The narrator wasn't the best but she didn't ruin this wonderful book. This is definitely one going my list of books to listen to again.
"Great Story"
I would have given it 5 stars but the reader is HORRIBLE! The author is one of my new favorites.
"Loved it!~"
After finishing Safe Haven, I had a really hard time finding something else to listen too, stumbled upon this one, and I love it, almost as much. Didn't even realize this was a series, sooo excited.
I have returned 2 previous books by other narrators, just couldnt get past them. She did an excellent job. Made the book.
"Great Story but...."
I would recommend the BOOK, not so much the audiobook if one can help it. The story was great but the narrator totally killed it for me.
the narrator wasn't bad, I just think she was more suited for YA novels. Some of the more adult scenes read by her was a bit unsettling as she has a more youthful voice.
"Wow...a must read....read them in order!"
I am a long time audio book listener. This is my first review. I am very impressed. It is easy to love the two main characters. There is a wonderful story, a family you can believe, "family values" that are real and have been tested. There is love, romance and some wonderful sex. It is a full service story. Marie Force seems to be a relatively new author and I predict we will see a lot of her soon.
I hope she keeps Sam and Nick around for a very long time. I am hooked.
Read them in order.
"nothing but trash"
If I wanted a sex novel, I would have gone to the romance section or gone to a porn shop. The sex scenes were over the top and did nothing for the plot or the story line.
Reading has always been my guilty pleasure. I would take stacks of books from the library. Now I listen to Audible.
"Just What I Needed"
I was looking for a series to tide me over until the next IN DEATH came along. This is it.
I really enjoyed the first book. The male voices were a little off putting but not enough to stop me from listening.
“I love all genres of books, however when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
"Wow! Suspenseful mysteries keep you riveted"
Emotional realism makes a story by Marie Force totally believable. All the way through FATAL AFFAIR, feelings are depicted with complete genuineness as sincerity backs any responses. Whether a character is in a jovial mood or is frightened by a traumatic event, their candidly honest thoughts are communicated with outspokenly frank words. Several of the discussions between Nick and Sam are exceedingly amusing with quick-witted humor, and other times their conversations are overflowing with compassionate concern. I became emotionally involved in the lives of these two when they are first met, and every additional fact about them only made my connection more powerful. There are some issues they must both deal with before their relationship can become a lasting one, and any struggles are clearly portrayed with careful examination of generally undeclared beliefs. Being privy to their inner way of thinking let me come to understand the driving force behind many carried out actions, and these stirring descriptions frequently touched my own feelings. The sexual awareness between Nick and Sam is sky-high, and this causes some scenes to be packed with tension while any intimate encounters are blazing with steamy heat and heartfelt emotions. A number of other characters are particularly distinctive, and the moments when Sam's partner, Freddie Cruz, is featured show his sharp mind with innumerable witty comebacks. As each mystery unfolds, the suspense mounts concerning who is behind the killing, and my own imagination continuously took various paths as new details about the possible suspects came to light. Ms. Force has created an outstanding story where the truth is masterfully divulged after more than a few unforeseen twists. FATAL AFFAIR engages the mind with rivetingly suspenseful mysteries while your heart is grabbed by the intense emotions.
Felicity Munroe was great with the delivery of the story. I can't wait ti read the rest of the series.
"Ridiculous"
The main character has a one night stand years and years ago, meets the guy and has a sudden overly obsessive school girl crush on him that she can't do her job of solving a murder. Yet we are suppose to believe that she is a strong capable police sergeant. The story lost me because this woman's and man's adolescent relationship is so absolutely school-yard, surgary-sweet and unbelievable.
"Light hearted and enjoyable"
Fatal Affair is truly an enjoyable light read. Marie Force does a wonderful job with the character development. I love Sam, Nick and Freddie! The story line is truly fictional with Nick and Sam having an inappropriate relationship for a witness/investigator, not to mention the willingness of fellow officers to overlook the ethical issues or this relationship. But the storyline is one you want to believe is plausible - the characters are just so compelling. Well deserved 5 stars.
