Living with the Dead: Women of the Otherworld, Book 9

I have been burning through this series enjoy each one more then the last, until now. This isn't the fault of the author, but the terrible narrator. This woman tried so hard to make male voices that all she did was destroy the narration, taking you out of the story. Her male voices sounded either drunk, mentally challenged, or like they smoked 4 packs of cigarettes every day. Add on to that the fact that she repeatedly miss-pronounced the name of Jamie Vegas. I have no idea how she got "Hamie" from Jamie, but she did. As I look forward to the rest of the series I am only filled with trepidation noticing that she is the narrator for the next few books also. I just wish a series could keep one narrator for the entire series.
As for the story. It was another great installment in this series with all the twists and turns that Kelley Armstrong is so great at creating. I love how she is able to give her characters depth and a well roundness that many authors lack. I feel like I know these characters as people. With faults, hopes and dreams. I would highly recommend this entire series to anybody.
In short, if you are debating reading or listening and don't care either way, Then read this book. Don't skip this one either way...just be forewarned.

The book itself is good, just as I expected from Kelley Armstrong. However, the narrator was just awful. In my opinion, she made Karl sound like some old pervert, Hope sound like an annoying teenage valley girl, and Robyn sounds pretty close to Hope, giving me problems telling them apart at times. I did enjoy the book, but I was very tempted to stop listening and deleting it from my Zune simply because of the choice of narrator.

I just love all Kelley's books, but it's very difficult to get into when the narrator is so horrible. She even messes up Jaime Vegas' name, pronouncing it, as if Jaime were a Hispanic male name! A previous review called the main character a whiney valley girl, which I completely agree with. These are strong female characters, not young teenagers and it would be great if the narrator took that seriously. Again, once you get past the narrator, you get to enjoy the book...though a little dark and disturbing at points. Still a great book. I'm sort of bumbed to see the same narrator on the next book, but she's not there for the 11th, whoohoo!

I am a big armstrong fan, so I'm sorry to say this one was too dark for me. Pedophilia and the abuse of incest-born retarded people just made me delete this one from my ipod. Sorry. Don't want to read more about that.

she detracted by being the narrator she was terrible. she mutilated the voices and she mispronounced names. it would have been better if she had not attempted voices at all.

I LOVE Kelly Armstrong. I love her writing and I love the series. I was very upset when I realized the narrator was so terrible! she has no sense for the characters, and she cannot even come close to a passable male voice. Karl sounds like someone is constantly choking him, and her female voices are almost as bad. They are difficult to tell apart and they sound like 16 year old brainless twits. Also how the hell do you repeatedly mispronounce Jamie as Haime?!? I could understand if the character was male or hispanic, but the character is FEMALE and a REDHEAD! I was very sad to see such a great stories ruined by a incompetent narrator.

I was totally disappointed while listening to this story, because the narrator did not do her homework at all. There were mispronunciations, and characters had different accents from previous stories. The narrator also sounded too ... young and whiny.

I think both are very good.

This story was in third person. Usually women of the otherworld are first person experience

The narrator's voice is very versatile.

With the exception of messing up one of the character's names, the narrator was very good. I don't blame her. I blame the director. This was book nine, No Humans Involved had already been printed.

I don't understand how the narrator got

I really enjoyed the story, however I was very use to everyone in the story having some type of power and it was just a little disappointing that Robyn is just human.

The narrator was horrible. She gave Hope Adams a New Jersey accent and her male characters sound absurd.

Decent story. It picks up 1/3 of the way in so that you notice the horrible narration a little less. The main female character sounds like a vapid whiny valley girl you kind of want to slap. Also she says "Hamie" instead of "Jamie" which is annoying.
