"Heart Warming Book"
"Because of Winn-Dixie" is a heart warming book that leaves a wonderful feeling in your heart for a long time. The reader does an excellent job in bringing the characters to life to the point where you are able to relate to them in one way or another. I strongly recommend this book to readers of all ages.
"This one rocks!"
What can you say about Cherry Jones? She is a fantastic narrator for this story. This is one of those books for which hearing it narrated is far better than reading the text yourself. Your kids will love this.
"Fabulously read! Lovely soft accent. Precious book"
The audio version of Because of Winn Dixie is so much better than any printed version could be for one reason: the soft Southern accent of the protagonist is winsome and gentle, and conveys deeply-felt emotions in a way that took me by surprise. I purchased this for my 3rd grader, but it ended up being heard by my Kindergartener, my 5th grader, and myself one Saturday morning as we folded laundry together. Once all the clothes were folded, we sat down dumbfounded at the table to head the rest, breaking only to munch on snacks. The worldview of the book is that all people matter, and all people deserve a second chance. It was not lost on my children. It needed no explanation by me.
"A really good book!"
I really love this book. I even shared it with my class and we all fell in love with it. We watched the movie too and had a Winn-Dixie party. I recommend it to all my friends - and you too. Kate DiCamillo is a great writer.
"Couldn't put it down!"
We really enjoyed listening to Winn-Dixie. Our youngest is enrolled in a reading program through school and needed an easier way to be comfortable with reading the 'big books' they are into now. This helps out a lot and is really boosting his confidence! Thanks Audible!
"Lovely story, well read"
A lovely story for adults as well as children. Cherry Jones reads it beautifully, her accent and tone just right for the various characters.
"Family"
The idea that family is not narrowly defined as a mother, father, and child.
I would recommend it to upper elementary students due to the nature of some mature themes, however, the simplicity of the story line takes you back to an age of innocence free from the more violent themes that surround students today in videos, TV shows, and music.

A Story of Family
Through Opal's journey friendships find a way of challenging the status quo and the adventure she sets out to discover in her new hometown delightfully culminates in an understanding of what it means to be family without necessarily being biologically related.

"Beautiful book"
A story about a lonely girl and her friendship with a charming, intelligent stray dog, and all the characters the dog help her befriend. All the character were very unique, all faced real life problems, but all these situations were told from the naive, innocent and hopeful point of view of a child. Cherry Jones really captured the childish nature of the main character. A light read, perfect for children and adults who love dogs and are still children at heart.
"Storytelling is a giftl"
I and my kids, grandkids, friends, pastor all came away from meeting Ms. DeMillo's people knowing we had met real, really read folk, including the star.
