Wizard Heir

I will have to borrow the rest of the books in this series from my local library. I really like the book!
It's the reader that terrible. He burps (yes, burps), spits, lisps, slurs, then he reads so fast the wordsruntogether, then well, he just stops, nothing, nada, dead air space. I guess the reader thinks these are dramatic pauses but they are tooo long and very abrupt.
But what I find the most annoying is the BIG gulping swallows.
I listen to audio book every day and find this to be the most annoying reader that I have found.

I regret delaying my download of these books because of the negative reviews regarding the narrator. There are some swallows, like one per book, and maybe he sounds serious, but it is a serious book. Overall I would say he is a better narrator than many other books I have downloaded here.

Now about the book, it is an exciting, stimulating story, far better than many of the others out there that are getting so much hype. I strongly recommend this series to anyone over the age of 9.

I love these books. The narrator was okay not the best. Had a lot of pauses but it is a great story.

Dreadful - whoever edited this work did not actually LISTEN to the narrator. He smacks his lips and inhales audibly for EVERY breath. It is so distracting. I've struggled through the first part and have debated several times to stop listening and just re-read the actual novel (which I probably will). I wish she could have gotten Rebecca Monder (Seven Realms) or maybe Luke Daniels to read this lovely series. Read the book...it's much better in your head than listening to this narrator...too bad.

I might recommend it for a teen reader but for my friends who have been lifelong avid readers,no. Certainly not to anyone as an audio book especially if it is the first audio book they've ever listened to. The reader, I feel, was a huge detractor and did factor into my growing annoyance while listening to this book. With another reader I may have enjoyed the story more and not have become critical of the writing style and story line.

The writing was inconsistent,sometimes flowery with descriptions and then suddenly bland and abrupt. The story was predictable and unsophisticated. As my irritation with the reader intensified I noticed elements of the story line not as original as I would have liked, scenarios or themes that perhaps were too similar to those found in a few of my favorite books like Harry Potter (the Wizard theme, absent parents, a 'wizard' school with Slytherin like schoolmates) and then later when Seph learns his mother is Linda (his supposed guardian and an enchantress), who did not tell his father, Lee (a wizard) that they had a child together until years later and only because their child has been kidnapped. It just reminded me too much of the Dresden files book #12 "Changes".

There is only one reader worse then Mr.Ramirez and that's Eileen Stevens. Anyone might have done a better job but we will never know. I can say with certainty that I will be hesitant to purchase any future books read by R. Ramirez.

I recommend the Heir series to anyone interested in a mix of modern story lines with magical elements. Chima's takes the reader into the world of teenage angst with well developed plots and characters- not an easy task!

It is comparable to Brandon Mull's work but geared toward a more mature adolescent audience.

Ramirez does a good job with intonation and brings the characters to life with his reading. He needs to mature his breathing skills as the narration suffers from audible breathing and swallowing - especially during the fight scenes. I started to dread the extra noise and it took a lot away from enjoying some fantastic scenes.

I read adolescent science fiction because I enjoy the genre and to support my teaching practice. This series is an excellent way to teach literature, geography, history and spark the imagination in a secondary setting.

The storyline connected this one to the warrior heir and the events.that resulted in the changes brought about by the events in that book.

Characters were just as lively as.previous.book.

I like the characters and the plot.

I have enjoyed reading several of Chima's books. I am TERRIBLY disappointed by the audible version, however. The reading and the directing are AWFUL. The mouth noises the reader makes (smacking, gulping, etc) suggest an amateur reader and director. The noises are so bad that my son gags and cannot listen. And the heavy breathing into the microphone is terribly distracting. Listen to Hunger Games or Percy Jackson to hear a good reader! I hope future books from this author are NOT read by this reader.
