Publisher's Summary

From the incomparable Jonathan Lethem, here is a raucous romantic farce that explores the paradoxes of love and art.

Lucinda Hoekke spends eight hours a day at the Complaint Line, listening to anonymous callers air their random grievances. One frequent caller, who insists on speaking only to Lucinda, captivates her with his off-color ruminations and opaque self-reflections. In blatant defiance of the rules, Lucinda and the Complainer arrange a face-to-face meeting - and fall desperately in love.

Consumed by passion, Lucinda manages only to tear herself away from the Complainer to practice with the alternative band in which she plays bass. Hoping to recharge the band's creative energy, Lucinda "suggests" some of the Complainer's philosophical musings to the band's lyricist, Bedwin. When Bedwin transforms them into brilliant songs, the band gets its big break, including an invitation to appear on L.A.'s premiere alternative radio show. The only problem is the Complainer. He insists on joining the band, with disastrous consequences for all.

Brimming with satire and sex, You Don't Love Me Yet is a funny and affectionate send-up of the alternative band scene, the city of Los Angeles, and the entire genre of romantic comedy. But it remains unmistakably the work of the inimitable Jonathan Lethem.

“A gentle and hip romantic comedy [that] breezes through LA's iconoclastic anonymity with a refreshing sincerity.” (The Independent)

    "More fun than most of"

Letham's work. I found "Fortress of Solitude" oppressive. "You Don't Love Me Yet" is a great deal of fun. It's a look at a part of today's youth culture I have no contact with so I cannot vouch for its accuracy but it is fun. The "blue noses" won't like it. It's full of sex, drugs and rock & roll with no apologies what so ever. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

    "Disappointing"

I'm a huge fan of Lethem and was really excited to see he had a new book out. Unfortunately, I found this book disappointing, for two reasons. First and foremost, Lethem may be (is) a good writer but he's a lousy narrator. This is one of the worst narrations I have listened to. Second, I found it difficult to sympathize with any of the characters. Unlike his previous books (and I think I have read them all), none of the characters are compelling in any way. I was marginally interested in the complainer, but we get little or no insight into his motivation or character. I can't say that I recommend this book, but if you are a die-hard Lethem fan I suppose you shouldn't take my word for it.....
