"Should be on the recommendation list"

I was never what you would call a big Johnny Cash fan just really liked his video Hurt, but this is an excellent story. The reader's voice also matches the story to a T. I can't write a review that does the book justice, but if you want to listen to a biography that follows a life of ups and downs with no regrets, learn about a man of faith who knew he was a sinner and knew the true power of Christianity not the hypocritical, religious right version that has become so vogue these days, then this is a worthy listen. You don't have to be a fan of country music in order to gain from this book, if you like to read books on success, or on how to make a comeback you can't get much better than this one. Mr. Cash was certainly a man who took what talent he had and made the most of it.

"Well Done Biography, but too short"

This is a fine biography of Johnny Cash, narrated by Kris Kristopherson (nice touch). It presents an honest, balanced telling of Cash's life and music and even points out discrepencies between the first two Cash autobiographies. Cash himself chose Turner to do the book but died before the interviews were complete. Turner filled in the blanks by interviewing those who knew Cash well. My only criticism is that I wish this were not an abridged version. It makes the telling a bit choppy at times.

    "lackluster"

A very surface story of a very complex man. Maybe it was just too much to expect to get much more in a 3 hour audio, but I was very disappointed in this one.

    "Not bad"

I love Johnny Cash and so, I enjoyed listening to this book and hearing about how Cash grew up, how he went in and made it into the field of music. I also enjoy hearing about how he created certain songs and on his relationship with other sings such as Elvis. With that said, though, I know the narrator was a close friend of his, but his voice practically put me to sleep.
