I've read so many books & listened to so many tapes on the subject, and this is the first one that really told me what to do about low self esteem and how to raise it up. I've recommended this to everyone I know who might even be slightly interested. In my case, it's changed how I act in the world and how I interact with myself. Priceless. Thank you Carolyn, is all I can say!!!!!!!!!
I have enjoyed this a great deal. She casts self esteem in a whole new light and encourages you to do more than listen and hope that things will change. Take her suggestions and watch yourself grow. Just one simple thing like- keeping your word to yourself is making all the difference for me. I keep my word when I commit to something for others in my life but I'm pretty good at sabataging myself. That simple concept was a light bulb moment for me.
Love her pragmatic approach to spiritual matters. This book demystifies and clearly explains how to strengthen self-esteem, and why self-esteem is fundamental to spiritual connectedness. She herself is a firm guiding presence -- caring but tough.
Definitely a must for the frustrated and worn weary of the self-help, make-me-feel-good-about-myself books that are out there ... this is the one. A rewinder, over and over again.
Caroline is not afraid to ask you to ask yourself the hard questions and she is there to help you if you are not very happy with your answers. This is a content rich and life-enhancing presentation--highly recommended.
I read the positive and negative reviews and I think that when searching for intellegent information Carolyn Myss has ALOT to add. Some of these kinds of things work/sound true for some and not others. I myself have found all of CM's books very interesting and insightful. If a lightbulb goes off for you with some stuff and not others it's still Good stuff!
I was extremely disappointed with this "book" (which turned out not to be a book at all). It's a live recording of a Self-Esteem seminar. I would probably have been ok with that format if it were organized in a very efficient and effective way but unfortunately it isn't. She might be using notes to make sure she covers all the topics but the continuity is terrible. If you've heard the comparison between people that think like a spaghetti noodle and those that think like waffles, you will understand what I mean. Each point is laced into a mesh of diverging and converging thoughts which makes it very difficult to build a mental strategy for dealing with low self-esteem. Most of the audio is spent just "talking" about the fact that people suffer from low self esteem. The benefit of the traditional book format is completely lost in this seminar version but to be honest, the content is so weak that a "book" format probably wouldn't have helped.
To make matters worse, when the moment finally arrived to actually DO something to improve self-esteem, you're given a very short (15 minute) exercise instruction. It was like digging three feet into the ground to recover a peanut. NOT recommended!
I have listened to this book several times - each time grateful of the insight. I am now listening again - after a soul jerking conversation with my father in law... about my own spiritual issues - basically my lack of self esteem and complete dependence on others for internal approval. Long story short, listening to this book again this morning I am hearing things I never allowed myself to hear - this is a life changing book, so long as you are ready to change your life. I know I am.
If the phrase 'new age' makes you run for the hills, if you don't like Jungian psychology or Eastern philosophy, this audio book will probably not appeal to you. If, however, you are open to non-traditional ways of thinking and ready to explore alternative ideas, Self-Esteem by Caroline Myss is a solid choice.
Caroline Myss is down to earth and no-nonsense in her approach, yet she maintains a sense of humour, and always shows concern and respect for her listeners. This audio book is a thought-provoking and insightful tool for exploration of the self.
