Amelia and Radcliffe arrive to find the camp in disarray, the workers terrified, and a most eccentric group of guests. A ghost even appears.
This is not at all what Amelia considers an atmosphere conductive to scientific discovery. Never one to deny others the benefit of her advice and example, the indomitable Victorian sets about bringing order to chaos and herself that much closer to danger. How Amelia triumphs over the forces of evil - and those who would stand between her and her beloved antiquities - make for a delightfully spirited adventure.
Don't miss the rest of the Amelia Peabody series.

"Great second read!"
This is the second book in the Amelia Peabody series. I love the reader as her voice is how I pictured Amelia's to sound. It's light reading, but very entertaining! I love the Egyptian angle in these books as both Amelia and Emerson are Egyptian archaeologists. Give it a try!
"Great Series-Wrong Narrator"
I am completely addicted to the Amelia Peabody series, but I believe a major factor is the absolutely brilliant reading and characterizations of Barbers Rosenblatt. I wanted to stay with the series so I tried this book and although I enjoyed the story it was not nearly as engaging with Ms. O'malley's narration. While pleasant enough to listen to, she just doesn't capture the essence of the characters like Ms. Rosenblatt. Her attempts at accents are, at times, ridiculous.
Enjoy the series, but stick to the Rosenblatt narrations.
"I agree..Barbara IS better"
The narrator of this title is positively dreary compared to the life instilled in each and every Amelia Peabody book performed by Barbara Rosenblatt. I won't buy any other titles using this reader...only Barbara Rosenblatt.
I'm pretty fussy about the quality of the narrator. This one wasn't interesting enough to keep me focused throughout the entire story. Whereas Rosenblatt's interpretations of the lead characters are witty and often tongue-in-cheek, this reader made the characters downright unlikable when they weren't utter bores.
A dis-service to the book and it's wonderful cast.
"Wrong Narrator"
I made the mistake of getting thes rather than the one performed by Barbara Rosenblatt.
Barbara would have made this rather average Amelia wonderful, but this book can not rise above the poor narration.
Still, any Amelia Peabody is better than average of any other book. :-)
"Enjoyed O'Malley's Narration"
I also enjoyed O'Malley's narration. It took a little getting used to after Rosenblat, but after an hour I slipped into her characterizations easily. I found myself LOL on many occasions. I will continue with the series.
"Oh No! Downloaded Wrong Narrator!!!!"
I LOVED the first book, but it was narrated by Barbara Ronsenblat. Susan O'malley sounds like a school-child asked to read in class compared to Ronenblat. She is so monotone that my mind wanders while listening and find I can't get interested. I well never download another narrated by her again! (sorry susan).
"Loved It!!"
I enjoy Amelia. She is quite a character. The descriptions of the people and of Egypt itself are beautiful. The plots can be on the razor's edge of being "too much". I love the narration by Susan O'Malley. She gives the story has just the right tone, not at all over the top as is the narration of Ms. Rosenblat. Ms O'Malley does a wonderful job on the voices of Emerson and Radcliff also. The story was huge fun. I can even enjoy a traffic jam while listening to this:)
I read constantly - hardbacks and ebooks, but I've always got a "listen" on my iphone. I trek all over the world, but my books travel with me.
"Classic British humour"
A stiff upperlip...and back...and a strong constitution in a woman who brokes no discussion around her decisions and her unfailing search for the right of every situation is a recipe for adventure. Finding new friends, learning and exploring and perhaps a bit of romance all wrapped in a mystery and a bit of British history.
"Very good mystery"
I couldn't stop listening to this book. I thought the mystery was fabulous as was the murder weapon. I didn't see who was actually the murderer until the unmasking at the end. I love the characters of Amelia and Emerson. The narrator was good as well although I did miss the british acccent that Barbara Rosenblat does, I thought that Susan O'Malley was very smooth and a great reader.
"Entertaining series"
I really enjoyed this installment of Peabody's escapades. I enjoy the convaluted reasoning that Peabody uses to conclude the adventures that seem to seek her out. The stilted English persona's are very entertaining and the narrator really brings the characters to life.
