"Cliché Characters... Overall a Decent Beach Listen"
Predictable, brainless, beach listen... Characters are VERY cliché. Typical Jackie Collins money, power, fame, sex read. Has a definite 80's vibe, ala Dynasty or Dallas.
If you are looking for something to listen to while doing chores or multi-tasking, this will do nicely... That's why I bought it. Very well narrated, overall. Jackie Collins has a bit of a lisp, which I found a bit annoying, however not enough to take away from the story. All other actors did a fantastic job, especially considering reading so many characters.
JC left an opening for a sequel, but did wrap up this story to my satisfaction, so I wasn't left waiting.
A solid 3 stars...4 stars if rated solely as a beach read.
"Collins novels are always fun and predictable."
I always read Jackie Collins novels. She was the first novelist I read when I moved beyond young adult books. Her characters are always familiar and it is always an enjoyable and predictable trip. The best part about this book is that all the characters were new. Jackie Collins will sometimes move past characters into new books, and that is great at times, but it can become stale.
I like the ease of the story. It was easy to pick up and listen to, it is not great writing, more of a fun book.
I have never listened to any of Jackie Collins books on audible before. I was very excited when the narrator said that she would be voicing one of the characters. Ummmmmmm, Jackie Collins has an off putting voice. It did not make the story more fun. There was one other reader, a girl, who had a very stilted way of reading her character. Almost robotic. The rest of the cast was great. Overall it was an enjoyable book.
That would be a lot of time with headphones. If I were driving in the car I would have listened straight though, but I can't ever imagine have that much time another way.
Any reader who knows Jackie Collins know what to expect. A little bit Hollywood, some drama involving a bad guy, and people who fall in and out of love. She is a fun writer. Do not read her stuff if you are looking for anything more.
"Great Jackie Collins story as usual"
Love her celebrity type novels but sometimes having so many different people narrating it is confusing. The story is great but ending was rather expected but did enjoy the epilogue with the information about everyone's lives at the end..
"I love this story"
It is a perfect book to take you away! I work 3 jobs and love to listen while I run with my dog. Takes away my stress. Enjoy!!
"Fun and Entertaining"
It's a fun and entertaining listen with better characters and story than many of Collins' recent novels. Once the story gets going it pulls you in and doesn't let go.
The reporter character and how reacts to the pirates. Very unexpected.
I wasn't a fan of the narration. In general, I don't like multiple narrators unless each person is playing a specific character. The change of narrators in this story was driven by the character taking center stage, but when the POV changed the same characters were being voiced by a different actor and the differences in style were distracting.
Overall, a very good Jackie Collins novel with less of the cookie cutter Hollywood story and characters. You could tell Collins put some time and thought into the plot and characters. Sure, there were a few of the "usual suspects": actors, models, etc.; but also some new celebrity types that made it a little more interesting. Easily one of Collins' better novels in awhile.
"The Lisp is Distracting"
I would have never allowed Jackie Collins to narrate her own book. The lisp was really distracting.
I like Jackie Collins books and would buy more.
I would listen to any of the narrator's with the exception of Jackie Collins.
No.
"Jackie...what happened?"
I ABSOLUTELY disliked the changing of narrators. It was annoying listening to each one do their own version of the characters. Especially in the beginning of the story when you don't know who is who.
Jackie...I've listened/read all of your books....you should stick to writing and NOT reading!
This has not been one of my favorite books. The characters were kinda "bland". The story build up was good, though a little predictable.
You haven't lost me as a fan, Jackie....but I'll wait to see if the next one redeems my faith.
Separately yes!...combined to one story....hell NO!!
"Loved it! Make time, because you can't put it down"
Yes, very exciting! It keeps and holds you from the first chapter until the last.
Meeting all of the players.
All very exciting in their own way.
"Lots of sex, drama and excitement on the high seas".
I have never wrote a review before but couldn't believe the other reviews for the book prior. I don't think some of them were reading the same book as I was. Doesn't make any sense. This was another Jackie Collins that I just couldn't put down. To me that's the first definition of a "great" read. I can't wait for the sequel. Through the years I have read most of her books. In the good old days it was reading a paperback, then came the cassette listen, the cd listen and now the audible listen. It hasn't mattered how I read them or listened to them, one thing's for sure, Jackie Collins books/reads will never disappoint. I love listening to them though. The narrator(s) always make the character's come to life in a way that reading the words and imaging the character's, just doesn't do it as much justice. "Great job" Jackie and keep them coming!!!
"Stupidly trashy! Waste of a credit!"
This book was so bad...how many times can you weave the same sex acts in the same way between 5 couples in one book?? I expected some of this, but soooo laughable! Some one needs to tell Jackie Collins that a 13 year old prepubescent boy has hacked her identity and written this book! And the female narrators were terrible - Jackie sounds like she has a mouthful of marbles!
