'Til Death Do Us Part: Zombie Fallout, Book 6

Yes! Yes! Awesomely Yes! From start to finish this books was amazing! The series isn't finished yet (I hope) but one chapter seems to be closed. There is so many things that Mark Tufo has gotten right in this one once more.

If you have been following the series (which I am guessing if you are looking at this review you have been) then you would probably have been slightly disappointed by book 5. Thank the powers that be the book has got back on track in book 6. The book is teeming with action and (unlike the precious book) does not have meaningless flashbacks. Mark Tufo seems to have been listening to my silent prayers after I finished book 5 and ramped up the action in every aspect.

Sean Runette is an excellent narrator and he kept up the great work. I am very very much satisfied!

To prevent myself from giving any away I will stop raving about the book. I am extremely thankful that the book has answered so many unanswered questions and have rejected the inclination to end on too big of a cliff hanger although I must say I was gripped up until the last sentence.

There's just something about the Talbot crew! I love the walking dead series and could see a series based on the Zombie Fallout series giving in some great competition. I can only hope! If you're contemplating purchasing the Zombie Fallout series go NOW. You will NOT regret it. Start with the first and listen to them all. This is the only series that I have EVER gone back and listened to twice. I am on book 4 AGAIN. Love love love them! (I can't imagine anyone other than Sean narrating)

I have to say that all the series was a huge disappointment.
It became too long
at most it should have been 3 or 2 books
all this dragged out suffering was the last nail in the coffin

where to start? for me, there's a mix of fear and excitement reading or listening to the last book in a series, hoping the conclusion will match the overall excellence of the series. so, did this book meet my expectations? yes and no.

the pros:

the good news. mark tufo is back! i didn't really like book 5 as much as the others, but this book is reminiscent of the others with a big dose of humor. some of that humor comes from mrs. deneaux. yes, the b!#*ch everyone loves to hate is featured prominently as she, bt, and gary flee north carolina for maine. while not politically correct myself, her stereotypical humor borders racism. i found it funny. most probably will b/c tufo likes to push boundaries, which is totally acceptable to me. speaking of "pc," most "pc" people probably couldn't have made it through book 1. LOL

speaking of mrs. deneaux. mark tufo is just as bloodthirsty of a killer as her. wow! the characters he kills in his novels. bet you don't see the 1st one coming.

i really liked and laughed at is a new character, john the tripper. his house is tin foiled and he wears a tinfoil hat. there are a lot of funny scenes with him and mike- when he doses mike and when he covers mike with lard.

there were several parts where i had to rewind a little b/c i couldn't pay attention to the story b/c i was laughing so hard. for instance, the get away vehicles or the clothing people are forced to wear. by far, the funniest scene was listening to what mike had to wear as he approached a bunch of truckers. sadly, i can't get that image out of my head. i won't spoil it for you, but its mike's worst nightmare. even now, i'm laughing and smiling at it.

the battles are awesome. tufo knows how to build the tension and effectively pace the fighting. the last stand at ron's house is well done. tufo outdoes himself describing the gore- running over zombies is like squishing giant packs of ketchup with meat in them.

the cons:

well, we knew mike had to come back somehow. i wasn't sure how tufo was going to do it, but i figured his vamp powers had to be involved. i just didn't expect the divine intervention, and the repercussion it has on eliza.

there are a couple of plot holes. i wondered why this object of particular importance was never mentioned unless i had a brain fart and forgot what happened to it.

there's another interesting character that's introduced who has a connection to eliza. while i don't want to give too much away, she is part of the group that finally confronts eliza.

this leads me to the final confrontation. i didn't know what to expect. mike vs. eliza in a battle of wills. mike and tommy versus eliza. i guess the final battle never lives up to the hype i've built for it. when it is all said and done, i can see why tufo did it the way he did. it is satisfying, but i felt let down when it was over, mostly b/c a series i've really enjoyed was coming to an end.

speaking of the end, the final journal entry is mike's cathartic recounting of what mike went through after eliza kissed him. the last 10 seconds will blow your mind!

The Zombie Fallout series is riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies. It is in desperate need of a good editor before it reaches publication. So why do I keep listening? The characters and the narration. Sean Runnette is the perfect embodiment of Michael Talbot and does an excellent job with all the characters. And Tufo has really given life to the characters in the book. We care about what happens to them.

Some are saying this is the last in the series, but I haven't seen any confirmation by Tufo on that and there are a lot of loose ends that need resolving. The Zombies still abound. I feel confident there will be a book 7, and I will gladly spend a credit on it.

Mark Tufo has found a new and fresh take on zombie fiction and his main character, Mike Talbot, is just an average guy with faults and issues which really helps you to connect to him and the stories. Every book in this series was a great read/listen and I would completely recommend them to listeners that like zombies, adventure, suspense, humor or emotional stories. There is something here for everyone. Additionally, the narrator for these books is amazing. He completely gets Mike Talbot and characterizes him perfectly. I hope there are going to be more stories to come. This climax to the series doesn't disappoint...I couldn't stop listening!

I have to say this is my favorite Talbot book so far. I have never laughed, gripped my seat and gasped, and cringed so hard listening to a book before.

Mike is separated from his family and begins a long journey back. Thinking he is dead the family begin to prep for the LAST STAND. Along the way Mike comes across a burned out hippie and a mysterious women. The funniest moments in the book was the dialog and circumstances the burned out hippie and Mark have. There is one moment I had grit my teeth and shut my eyes during a very CLAUSTROPHOBIC situation.

Brilliant and talented series!!!!

The talbot series continues - I am sad to say if is the last book (which I hope not) I will be so bummed - I love this series and I have become such a Huge Tufo fan. I loved this book and its so worth the credit -

You cant compare Mark Tufo's books to any other books.

Sean always makes me as the reader feel like I am there in the story.

Overall, I would say this is a fairly decent ending to this somewhat overlong series of post-apocolyptic zombie novels. I think this series of relatively mediocre zombie stories could have been contained in 3-4 books at the most. I just felt that by book 6 the story was getting a little too stretched and redundant. On the plus side, Tufo keeps the action going as the lead character Mike continues on with his enevitable showdown with the evil vampire Eliza. One strange thing about this book I have to comment on is the feeling the story line takes on distinct characteristics of several popular zombie games. Most notably are the "tank" zombies and other "special infected" zombies made popular by the Left for Dead video games. I don't know if this was intentional by Mr. Tofu, but the similarity between the two is striking.

In a nutshell, fans of the first five novels will definitely like this addition to the series. All the main characters are back, and Tofu continues with the high octane non-stop action. And once again, Sean Runnette as the narrator gives an excellent performance.
