Prodigy: A Legend Novel, Book 2

Hard to say.

It's so emotional. Legend was a great book but Prodigy was just incredible. So moving and breath taking.

He makes you love Day even more.

It was very hard not to. The story line was addicting, always twisting and turning and just amazing.

I am not sure why audible released before Amazon but I am so glad they did. This book was amazing. It broke my heart worse than almost any other book ever has.

Marie Lu has done an OUTSTANDING job with this second installment to "Legend". The action kept the story pace going while the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. And, of course, I'm a sucker for some romance. Narration was a little slow at the begining but picked up quickly and the performance was done very well. Good job Mariel Stern and Steven Kaplan!

Day and June have escaped Batalla Hall and are on their way to find the Patriots for help. Both have been broken and torn apart by the loss of both their families. All that is left is Day's younger brother, Eden, who has been taken by the Republic because he has and carries the new strand of the plague. Can Day and June's feelings for each other withstand a fight to find a brother, a crumbling government and a strained relationship between two people from two very different worlds? Sometimes, things aren't always what they seem be.

Awesome book/audiobook! I definitely recommend it!

The characters came alive as I listened to this book. Day and June are vivid characters that came alive in the depths of my imaginatiion. I loved the fast paced story line that was filled with emotion and fast paced heart thumping action. Day and June have joined the Patriots against the Republic in a goal to assasinate the Elector (leader of the Republic). At first both Day and June agree to the plan but soon both find out that not all is as it seems. Who can be trusted?
The book keeps you asking questions and gives satisfactory answers. I can't say enough how much I loved this book!

This book had me...right up until the end. I was on the verge of giving it 4, bordering on 4.5 stars and then it took a turn that left me groaning with annoyance.

The book was very good up until that point. In my opinion, better than the first. There was more detail, more action, more intrigue. The book starts out with Day and June fresh from their escape and on their way to Vegas, where they hope to find help in the Patriot rebels. From there, they are thrown into a plot to assassinate the new elector. They are split apart, reunited, exposed to harsh truths about both sides and forced to pick their path knowing that nothing will be as they hoped/expected. I kept expecting them to get split apart - divided by two causes and too many lies. But always Lu brought them back together with logic and sound reason that made sense considering these two characters who she has built with solid heads on their shoulders, even despite their ages. It was really good. But then, at the very last minute, she devolved into the silly YA nonsense that makes me want to stop reading YA entirely. Building false drama by making her characters become suddenly dumb when in the rest of the book, they were mature beyond their years and saw past all the lies and BS. It kind of ruined it for me.

I'll land on 3.5 stars for this one and I'm curious if I'll still be interested in book #3 when it comes out in 2014 (wtf!) If it was out already, I would read it. But I wonder if in a year (or more) from now, I will remember any of the good. Or if all I will remember is the bad taste that the ending of this one left in my mouth and decide to skip it

Prodigy continues the story in an effective fashion - I ended up enjoying this better than the first book. The characterization deepens, matures, and we learn more back story from main and side characters such as Kaede, Tess, even Mateus. And, rare for a YA, the individuals aren't black and white and there isn't a straight romance novel subplot.

I especially liked that there are no moustache twirlers and what seemed obvious in the first book turns out to be put on its head in the second book. There are no major plot twists; rather, this is a book about character maturation and definition - two things sorely missing in the first book.

The male/female narrators did an excellent job of keeping the story grounded through the eyes of 15 year olds. And it was good to learn more about the dystopian world.

Looking forward to the next book!

The first novel was my favorite book, and this was also one of my favorites! I'd say give it a try, if your into YA and dystopian you'll love it! This book is sooooo good!!

I was very excited to listen to this book since I liked the Legend so much. I wish I can say I enjoyed it. It wasn't a bad book, really. It was just very predictable. An hour into the story I could tell exactly how it's going to end. Everything couple did I guessed long before it happened. The world building and character evolution was probably better in this one but it doesn't matter much if the story is weak. Also, she did in this book what I hate with a passion of thousand suns- a cliffhanger. Admittedly, that was the only thing I didn't predict. Sigh.I will read the next book. I think I know how it will end but I still want to see how they will get to that point. If you decide to buy this one, try not to think too hard and just enjoy the journey. Actually, it would be best to turn off your brain , that way you may not guess where the story is going.

I wasn't really exited to start reading the Legend trilogy and when I finished the first book I thought that it was an "OK" novel but didn't have what it takes to make me eager to go all the way. Nonetheless, I decided to start "Prodigy" and It was much better than the first one and had more mysteries and was more Intriguing which added something extra to the plot.

In the first book, the personalities of June & Day was much alike that I couldn't imaging them as two but in "Prodigy" the distinction between these two main characters was more pronounced and well built.

The story was good and I think it's a good book for who likes dystopias in general and I think it's much more better than "The Hunger Games". It gives you a good prospective in comparing different worlds and let you think more in "what if I was in the other persons shoes?"

When I got familiar with the characters I felt that some of the actions written wasn't supposed to be the real response rather it was the author's own prospective and served her in how she wanted to close the chapter. So, sometimes I felt that the original response should have been different.

All that said, I give it a 3.5 stars.

June and Day find themselves in situations that you think they are just simply not getting out of this one..... and then they do, sort of. The ending to the second book is shocking and you will either hate or love it. I can't wait for book 3!

Day and June are the resistance's new Bonny and Clyde taking on the republic and inspiring a nation. But when the Elector Primo dies the fledgling couple finds themselves entangled in an assassination conspiracy that will test their loyalties and love.

Marie Lu delivers an engrossing followup to her debut novel. Prodigy takes all the intrigue and heartbreaking developments of it's predecessor to the next level. Day and June's past exploits and diverse backgrounds add complexities and questions to their relationship that exposes new layers to their characters and how they evolve throughout the story. Lu intertwines the plot and emotional development beautifully. The unlikely love in Lu's hands not only drives her characters but manages to create a lot of complications for them to overcome. The author's world gets a boast with a glimpse into the colonies and a surprising setting for the resistance. The story is mostly built on semitransparent threads. Yet a couple of huge twists I didn't see coming, and another heart wrenching ending will leave readers ready and wanting the third installment now.

The narration by Stephen Kaplan and Mariel Stern was a little stiff and formal but it grows on you and somehow manages to fit the world and personalities of the characters well. Kaplan and Stern have get voices for YA. I'm glad they returned to voice this installment and hope they continue to do so.

It's hard to live up to a Legend but Prodigy manages to entertain. The evil genius of Marie Lu will captivate readers and listeners alike while planting enough yummy possibilities to make fans groan over the long wait ahead.
