The Great Controversy begins at the dawning of the Christian era, traces the rise and fall of nations and religious powers down to our day, then plunges ahead to preview the future. And what this book sees coming is not based on guesswork. It is based on a source of predictions that has never yet missed in its prophecies.

"Horrible Narrator"
The subject is interesting enough, albeit delivered with some pretention, but the reader--ugh! He mispronounces many simple words, and sounds like a 12 year old reading to a group of 6 year olds in a terribly condescending tone. He actually made this sound like a children's book instead of the somewhat scholarly work it was intended to be. I couldn't finish it.
"Bad narrator good book"
I hope the publishers of this book consider rerecording it with another narrator.
As for the book itself, it was very interesting. It is a history book mixed with inspirational and speculative commentary. It gives an accurate accounting of church history starting around the destruction of Jerusalem. It covers Christianity during the decline of the Roman Empire, the dark ages, the reformation, the protestant movements and the pilgrimage to America for religious freedom. It continues with a general account of modern times and finishes with what the climactic conclusion of the conflict between good and evil may be like.
This book, I believe, was originally published some time before 1920, so it isn't written in the most modern of language. Yet as a student of history and avid follower of modern events it is kind of eerie to see that some of the things the book says would happen, towards the end of time, either have happened and/or are happening now. Other then the victory of good over evil, I pray not to see all of it come true.
Unfortunately history does seem to repeat itself and if you've read Gibbon's 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' (also not written in the most modern of language yet still a must read/listen) or Robinson's 'A History of Rome'(another must read/listen) you can see a lot of frightening similarities between the Decline of Rome and the United States today. I pray our country can beat the historical repeat and continue as the great nation it was founded to be.

"Must Have Book For End Time Prophecy And Events!"
This is the best book on end time prophecy and events that I have ever read or listened to! It says it like it is! It is definitely a book that clearly exposes pretention and falsehood in the spiritual realm. Thus it is no wonder that those that are involved in its identified deceptions seek to discredit it or those who present it.
Thought overall the narrator does a very good job, it is evident that he was not raised with English as his mother tongue which has been to his disadvantage. At the same time I find that he is able to deliver that which was written sufficiently enough. As a scholar who has traveled and done investigative research work in 5 continents I feel sorry for those whose minds are so narrow and inflexible that they cannot tolerate anything that does not match their level of listening skills. At present I have never found any readings that have been without listening flaws nor is it possible. Pronunciation of words differs from north to south and east to west as all well versed and traveled listeners should know.
Those who do not have good enough listening skills to finish listening to the end of the book have missed the most impressive part. Intolerance for the way in which one is presenting information is often a sign of intolerance for that which is being presented.
In conclusion, if you are a lover of Truth and desire to know history and what is coming in the near future this is an excellent and illuminating book even with the occasional mispronunciations.
"historical masterpice"
this book brings a panoramic view from past to future a must listen
"the bigger picture"
This is an incredible book that brings the Bible alive and emphsizes the bigger picture. The Great Controversy between God and Satan... between good and evil.
"Kent from Provo, Utah"
This book has a lot of good information in it. However, potential readers should be aware that the author, Ellen G. White was a 19th century spiritual leader and minister who claimed to have visions and revelations. Her leadership and writings, including this book, were important to the foundation of the Seventh-day Adventists. Thus, if you are interested in reading this book, be aware that it expresses a world view born in the 19th Century and representative of and supportive of Seventh-day Adventist theology.
Probably my greatest complaint is that this well written and informative book is read by a narrator who tries to affect a particularly spiritual tone in his speech. This attempt at sounding spiritual is overdone and sounds artificial to me. I found it so annoying that I have been unable to bring myself to listen to the third of the three-part download of this book. I wish he had just read it in a straight-forward, honest manner.
"Great Controversy"
This is the best book that I've read on the controversy between Christ and Satan. It will have you on the edge of your seat. Especially the last 7 chapters which talks about things that will happen at the end of time. I would recommend the book as well. GREAT WRITER!!!
"Christian history, past, present, and future"
This book starts with the destruction of Jerusalem and culminates in prophecy about the end of the world. It adds a lot of detail that is very believable since history has repeated so much of it again and again.
"Pity about the Narrator"
This is a very interesting and informative book.
The book could be life changing but the narrator makes it tedious to listen to and a very frustrating experience.
I would recommend looking for different version with an "English as a first language" narrator.
"SO GLAD 2 FIND THIS ON AUDIBLE!!!"
Never thought it would happen but I'm tickled to find "The Great Controversy" on Audible! This is an outstanding book and I give it my highest recommendation! A MUST HAVE! Truly life changing! The human condition boiled down to good-vs-evil explained thoroughly.
