"It is a young adult novel."
Would you try another book from L. J. Smith and/or Ellen Grafton?I love LJ Smith's novels! Ellen Grafton gave a spectacular performance I give her 5 stars!! So yes on both!
If you’ve listened to books by L. J. Smith before, how does this one compare?This is the first book of the Night World series, so it's a little different from the rest of the stories. Over all I have to say that Smith did a wonderful job in this book introducing us to Night World through James and Poppy.
What about Ellen Grafton’s performance did you like?Ellen Grafton was fantastic! She gave each character depth and truely gave Poppy a young vital spirit in her performance.
Do you think Night World: Secret Vampire needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?Yes. And again this is the first book of the series but the las time you really hear about James and Poppy alone.
Any additional comments?Lets remember that this is a young adult novel, so if you are looking for a mature story line or a more intimate relationship between the charecters, it's just not going to happen here. If you are a young adult reading these books I would say welcome to the nightworld your mind is about to be blown away! If you are an adult reading this series I would say: Just enjoy the journey.

"Reasonable"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?A better story. The abstract is very interesting, and makes you wish read (or in this case listening) the book. But the story is boring. I hope something more cool as "Vampire's Diaries".
What was most disappointing about L. J. Smith’s story?The final, when James and the girl running to live in other place. To look out for the girl's fahter... What kind of end is this? Terrible.
What didn’t you like about Ellen Grafton’s performance?Nothing to say about. She only read the bad story.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Night World: Secret Vampire?I change the scene when the girls die. It's so boring... Ok. She is dying... but, is necessary be so childish when you die? I'd change also the final... What happen with the witches and James' cousing?
Any additional comments?I was disappointed about the book.

"It's ok for what it is"
I've been on a vampire binge recently and decided to try this novel. For the most part I was happy with the story, the narrator did a good job with what she had to work with. I just feel the plot line was rushed and that there wasn't enough character development. The ending was also quite obvious about half way through the book, so that's never fun. On top of all this, I was hoping to continue the Poppy/James storyline in the next book of the series, but the next novel involves the witch cousins, Blaise and Thea, with no mention of the previous couple. I'm, unfortunately, not continuing this series.

"Nails on a chalk board, steak through my wallet"
Narrator Ellen Grafton is not at all fitting for this genre. Couldn't even get through the first 1/2 hour and will not continue. A waste of money.
