Senate investigations and Justice Department accusations multiply as Mike Nolan, a Marine Corps reserve helicopter pilot and trial attorney in civilian life, is hired to defend the company from the criminal investigations and a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the most notorious lawyer in America on behalf of the First Lady.
Nolan knows that to win his case, he has to find out what really caused Marine One to crash and why the president threw caution aside to go to a meeting no one seems to know about.

"Great courtroom thriller"
I really enjoyed this one. This book suggests the sword of damocles theory how people in positions of power are always under constant threat. The President's chopper crashes and the expected media frenzy ensues, the manufacturer of the chopper is the obvious scape goat so a court battle follows while evidence is covered up and a the real story wreaks of conspiracy. The action starts right from the first page, and I was hard-pressed to find one dull moment. Always on the edge of my seat, the narrative is fast paced and free flowing. The only criticism I have is regarding some of the chapters in the first half. This book reads like an abridged version. sometimes, the chapters would just stop! The author tries to make it suspensefull by cutting the chapter off, mid-sentence, but it gives an unfinished impression. I was quite surprised at this. Having said that, the Narrator does a brilliant job with tones and accents, etc. It is very well read, and an exciting story to listen to.
"A great read/listen"
This one is well worth a credit. Save it for a long trip because you can't stop once it gets started.
"Fantastic story, well told, action packed!"
Huston does it again with this wonderful book. Full of suspense and unexpected turns that are both fantastic and plausible. This is a great book that's well read by the narrator.
"Excellent Listen"
Definitly. This book will remain in my library for a long time to enjoy again and again
"Okay, but left you hanging..."
This was NOT my favorite book from audible. I got it during the paperback sale on a lark. It's a decent book, with some strong central characters. However, the ending really irritated me. The main story was wrapped up, but all of the parallel lines of smaller stories were just left hanging. When I was teaching speech I would have counted off for the "psychological noise" factor.
"Good one."
I enjoyed this book. Not too drawn out...kept my interest all the way through. Narrator was excellent as well.
Pam Foster - I enjoy listening to books. I had to retire early and I've found audio to be one of my good friends. Reading reviews is a must before purchasing a book.
"Enjoyed very much & did not want to put down"
Not at all, I have read many and I have found them to be informative. Reading how a man or woman becomes who they are and how much they strived to be their best in their service to America helps me to better understand books written by such authors as Brett Battles and Simon Vance. I do enjoy series.
Absolutely. His narration was so good that he made the book even more enjoyable to listen to.
While writing this review, I cannot think of any character that does not make the book enjoyable.
Buy the book, sit back and be ready for a great listen.
"Kept Me Listening"
Yes, I would recommend this book. It has a different plot from anything else I've read. It was well developed and had great details you might not consider in a presidential death not related to natural causes.
One of my favorite characters is the lawyer for the former First Lady. He was shady and intimidating. I also enjoyed the character portrayed by the private investigator for Mike Nolan.
I never particularly care for the accents people try to use in this case it was the french accent. It just sounded really fake. However, the tone for everyone else was perfect.
No, not because it wasn't good. I just didn't have time. It only took a day and a half.
Tell us about yourself!
"Interesting premise"
I had never heard of James Huston or, to my knowledge, heard Joe Barrett but this book was so unexpectedly great that I will be purchasing more books by Huston and looking for books read by Barrett. If you like suspense and drama, and tense courtroom scenes you will enjoy this book.
"good thriller"
This is a pretty good thriller. Not classic, but enjoyable to listen and not a waste of time.
