Star Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter

As a Star Wars fan, I really enjoyed this book. The writer pulls you right into the Star Wars universe! I read the book, listened to the audiobook, and I find myself doing it over and over again. It's a must have if you're a Star Wars fan.

Simply put, the effects were horrible...this is Star Wars, and sound boards for it are a dime a dozen, so I was more than a little shocked by the production value...A dirt bike putt-putt sound for speeder bikes? REALLY!? I was honestly unable to immerse myself in this a-book because I kept listening for all of the missused sound effects.

The story in Star Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter is interesting because it explores Coruscant's lower levels in a way that has not been done yet. The story moved along nicely, and Maul's capabilities in skills other than lightsaber combat are exposed to a decent degree.

The narrator, Michael Cumpsty, breathed live into the characters, and delivered the goods in an otherwise mediocre to shooddy Star Wars Production. Michael was able to emote all of the character well, the rogue was rough, Maul was focused and sinister, and the Jedi Padawan character sounded uncertain of her skill, and Jedi-like in her approach to the problems at hand.

This book was worth the time and money if you have credits to burn...if you are looking for a big bang for real $$, this is not it.

I am shocked that George Lucas has not had the sound effects remastered on this audio book yet...only slightly less shocking is that he allowed this to roll-out in the first place.

This is an excellent lead in to the events of the Phantom Menace. It is an action packed look behind Darth Maul and shows how driven his character really is.

This book is very much in the vein of other Star Wars novels especially movie lead in's.

He truly brings out hte unique inflection of each of the characters.

I wish they had included the short 52 page story that was in the paper back version: Darth Maul: Saboteur by James Luceno. I felt let down when it wasn't part of the audio version.

More Maul please!

This book adds a lot of interesting background for Episode I, which made re-watching it (more) enjoyable. A must for any Star Wars fan.

This title was just "ok" as compared to other Star Wars titles. It starts out slowly but picks up after the first quarter of the story. If you're a huge Star Wars fan, you'll enjoy it.

The ending was anticlimatic when taking into account the surrounding events, left me with an 'okay, so what' feeling rather than insight into the days before the blockade. Interesting background story into Darth Maul, but too short.

If you like Star Wars and want to learn the beginnings and missions of one of the most mysterious Sith characters then you'll enjoy this story. I hope there's another Darth Maul story written as well as this one was.

Lousy story and almost no characterization of Darth Maul. Read Darth Plagueis for good pre-prequel storytelling.

The narrator is OK, but has an odd speech inflection that sticks out in each of his character voices.

This book really should not have Darth Maul's name in the title considering how little you learn about him.

I felt that this was one of the weaker Star Wars books I have read. The Jedi counsel seemed inefficient to me as did the the Jedi characters represented. Some of the details in the story did not make sense to me. It lacked substance and the sound effects were not high-quality. Listen or read Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi. They are much better.
