Publisher's Summary

Beloved by readers, Sophie Kinsella's national best seller, Confessions of a Shopaholic, introduced the irrepressible one-woman shopping phenomenon, Becky Bloomwood. Now, in this hilarious follow-up, Becky and her credit cards are headed across the Atlantic.

With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky's biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. And worse, figuring out how to "pack light." But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he's moving to New York for business - and he asks Becky to go with him!

Before you can say "Prada sample sale," Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury department stores.

Surely it's only a matter of time until she becomes an American TV celebrity, and she and Luke are the toast of Gotham society. Nothing can stand in their way, especially with Becky's bills miles away in London.

But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line! Shopaholic Takes Manhattan - but will she have to return it?

This book is also known as Shopaholic Abroad.

    "Delightful!"

I really enjoyed this book. This book is witty and funny right from the start. It is hard to put down just waiting to see what will happen next. The reader, Emily Gray really brings the characters to life. I can't wait to read the other two books in the series.

    "Not good"

I know this is supposed to be light & fun reading; but I began to hate Becky. She is deceptive and manipulative, and lies to her loved ones. I couldn't root for her or care about how things turned out. For light reading, this was alot of work.

    "Same exact story, different setting"

I am sad to say that I thoroughly disliked this book. I enjoyed “Confessions of a Shopaholic”. However, this is the same story with a different setting. I smiled my way through Confessions because this silly character seemed to learn from her mistakes. End of story? Nope. We get to read how Rebecca is NOT simply foolish in a charming way; but is just plain stupid (the chapel scene, really?). I enjoy a light, chick lit novel, I do not expect a literary masterpiece, but this book is just plain annoying.

"I LOVE Sophie Kinsella...My First Shopaholic Book"
What made the experience of listening to Shopaholic Takes Manhattan the most enjoyable?

The narrator is perfect. I always enjoy Kinsella's quick, dry wit. I've yet to read a book that is not clever and sharp. She is one of the few authors that can actually draw me in and make me 'feel' what her characters feel.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I hate spoilers so I will be general...the most interesting was Becky's attempts to reverse her fortunes in the shopping department. The most frustrating was her attitude that she could shop and shop with expectations that the bank or credit card should up her limit - I actually had to take a break listening to her entitlement attitude....but further along she redeemed herself.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The airport near the end.

Who was the most memorable character of Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and why?

    Becky-she IS the Shopaholic!

    "Such Fun to "Read"!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Shopaholic Takes Manhattan to be better than the print version?

I think the audio edition of this Shopaholic book was better than the print version. I LOVE hearing the British accent and inflection. It really helps when you're reading about quid, the loo, and pounds!

What did you like best about this story?

I love Becky's lack of realism. So many of us live our lives so seriously, and this book is truly a fun read and an escape from reality.

What about Emily Gray’s performance did you like?

I love Emily Gray. Her voice is EXACTLY how I picture Becky's voice! In some of the later books a different narrator is used and it's not the same.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    When in Rome!...or New York!

    Any additional comments?

The Shopaholic series is such a fun group of books. I enjoyed reading them and now I love listening to them on Audible! Rebecca Bloomwood's character is relatable to every 20 (or 30) something gal. She has a fun job, fun life, and loves to shop. Couple that with the high class city of New York and you've got trouble.
I know I will listen to this book over and over again!

    "Hilarious!!"
Would you listen to Shopaholic Takes Manhattan again? Why?

This book made me laugh so hard I would listen to it again and again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Becky's mouth gets herself in the most awkward situations.

What about Emily Gray’s performance did you like?

She made the characters come to life. She used different language, speech patterns, etc for each character.

If you could take any character from Shopaholic Takes Manhattan out to dinner, who would it be and why?

David, he seems like so much fun.

    Any additional comments?

Buy the book you won't be diappointed.

"I hate shopping but love listening about others sh"

I love the Shopaholic books. I've never really been a big spender myself but living vicariously through Becky Bloomwood. Even though I'm not a big spender, it definitely doesn't mean that I don't like hearing about other people's shopping exploits. Au contraire, I do very much; I just have extremely good willpower (haha)!

One of the things that I love best about these books is Becky herself. She's quirky and she makes a lot of mistakes but underneath it all, she's still easy to love. While I did find myself *facepalm*-ing throughout the book like I did in the first book, she's too hilarious to get mad at.

In this installation, Becky follows her dreamboat, Luke, to a bigger pond than London. She finds herself in the middle of NYC faced with all sorts of new stores to explore. She figures new country, new start and is determined to put off paying her bills waiting for her back in her home country. She spends with abandon and seems surprised when once again, it gets her into big trouble. On top of that, it gets her into much, much bigger trouble.

These books are a lot of fun. While I don't think that it's necessary for you to have read the first book in this series in order to enjoy the book, I think you could still definitely enjoy the books.
