Tales from the Norse Legends

I was apprehensive about this knowing nothing about Norse mythology and thinking the names would be too difficult to learn since there seems to be a shortage of vowels in Scandinavia. But I wanted to learn something new and different and boy was I glad I tried this.
These stories were delightful! Some of stories included the creation, how Tyr lost his hand, how Thor got his hammer, and Ragnarok (the twilight of the gods - final battle of good vs evil).
I learned where we got our word berserk from and that Thursday was named after Thor the Norse god of thunder. You'll especially like (or hate) Loki. He causes so much trouble.
After listening to it once, I was interested enough to do a little online research where I quickly learned the spelling of some of the names I had heard in the book. I listened to it again and enjoyed it even more. This was easy to do since it is such a short book.
The narration was also excellent, and it made these tales especially enjoyable. I highly recommend this if you want something a little different but fun.

I did listen to this selection from start to finish while driving.

the Music inbetween each section of the book was awful. not because the music sucked, it was good music, it was just about 120% louder then the narrator. So i had to turn it down...then turn it back up once the story started again.

This was a fun book to listen to. The narator does a great job of portraying the various characters and getting the listener into the book.

This would be a great book for older kids as well or any one who just enjoys norse mythology.

It's less about specific mythological stories and more about the overall chronology about the Norse mythos, and it's sometimes oversimplified (Loki Loki Loki!). Nevertheless it's a fun read/listen and entertaining even to those who aren't major fantasy buffs or European pre-history buffs.

The audiobook is divided into various sections and each section is a different story. The sections can be listened alone but the later sections should be listened in sequence to make the story flow better. The name of all the gods at times were confusing but after a while, the main gods pretty much appear in most sections, such as Odin, Thor, Loki and Baldur. There are giants, magic cloaks, giant wolf and all sort of mytical creatures. The story gets more interesting when it progresses. Overall, it is a very good collection of stories.

Gods and Giants. Men and monsters. Tree-beings and Trolls. Elves and dwarves. Peace and war. Love and treachery. Forged golden rings and magical weapons. Spells and sorcery. There's even a gollum prototype in the fallen Loki. If you want to hear the legends that greatly influenced Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" this one's for you. I enjoyed it hugely. The narrator is first-class, as is the audio quality.

I did not know much about Norse mythology before I listened to this book but even though it was not an extremely long audio book I learned so much about the Norse gods and the legends that make them important.

I was surprised to see a review commenting on poor delivery, as this is our favorite narrator.

We enjoyed his delivery of both "Greek Legends" so much that we searched for more books with the same narrator.

I love Norse legends and this really stands out among all the various Scandinavian myths. An awesome book...

I'm 24 and have always enjoyed the Norse myths, and this audiobook did a wonderful job of telling the stories of gods, giants, elves and dwarves of the Norse pantheon. It's simple enough to be understood by grade school children while at the same time being detailed and entertaining enough for adults. The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life, and the music in the background at important parts adds a nice touch to increase drama and anticipation.
