They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light....
The stranger silently summoned her from across the continents, across the seas, whispering of eternal torment, of endless hunger... of dark, dangerous desires. And somehow American surgeon Shea O'Halloran could feel his anguish, sense his haunting aloneness.
Drawn to the far Carpathian Mountains, Shea found a ravaged, raging man, a being like no other. And she trembled. For in his burning eyes she recognized the beloved stranger who'd already become part of her.
But was she to be his healer... or his prey?

"Better version"
Abby Craden does a much better job on this than Juanita Parker. Parker always sounds like she's reading to children.

"Christine Feehan is Great!"
Great sequel
The plot continues on from the Dark Prince. The Carpathian world gets bigger and more questions are answered.
When Gregori and the prince come to help the second time. The dialogue is great.
It really made me laugh to hear the byplay between the males.
Just a great read. All questions get answered and the story line is set for the next book. I like this narrator.

"Narrator a big improvement over previous version"
I liked this narrator much better. She especially does a good job with the male voices. It's just a better dramatic reading. I've listened to all the books in this series, and I hope some of the other earlier books are rereleased with a different narrator.
"ABRIDGED version might have helped this slowpoke"
I just felt like someone hit the slo-mo button on this one. The heroine has this angst about becoming the hero's life partner which is just kind of silly considering all we know about who and what she is and the supposed hormonal pull of this whole life partner thing. I felt like the preoccupation with her angst bogged the story down and prevented it from moving forward in a satisfactory way. I like to listen before I go to sleep, but with this book I just kept falling asleep. I had to listen while doing housework, but I still found my mind wandering off. The narrator was just okay. I am a fan of narrators who bring the characters to life--no extra life delivered here. While this narrator didn't add to the story, she didn't detract either. Based on this listening experience, this will be my first and last Feehan novel. As my tastes usually fall within popular norms, I am a little perplexed what other people found so enjoyable that I obviously just didn't. If I feel like a little vampire action in the future, I'll look up Kresley Cole, Jeanine Frost, or Dianne Duvall whom I've enjoyed in the past.
"I do enjoy these romance stories"
Having found the first book on audio CD at a used bookstore, I was then hooked and was interested in hearing another. This showed up as a Kindle/Audible Whispersync offering and I also wanted to see how that worked. I especially like listening when commuting to work, but also had some projects around the house and thought it would be nice to be able to go between reading and listening whenever I chose. I think this is the way to do things now, whenever possible! The author writes engaging, entertaining fiction that captures your interest from the first moment. The only reason for the 4 stars is you get tired of the same descriptive terminology being repeated over and over throughout the whole text. I would think that once you have developed your characters, it would not be necessary to repeat these terms, but it is her style and has been a winner for her as people keep buying her works. The performance was Excellent. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
