Publisher's Summary

Druid Atticus O’Sullivan hasn’t stayed alive for more than two millennia without a fair bit of Celtic cunning. So when vengeful thunder gods come Norse by Southwest looking for payback, Atticus, with a little help from the Navajo trickster god Coyote, lets them think that they’ve chopped up his body in the Arizona desert.

But the mischievous Coyote is not above a little sleight of paw, and Atticus soon finds that he’s been duped into battling bloodthirsty desert shape-shifters called skinwalkers. Just when the Druid thinks he’s got a handle on all the duplicity, betrayal comes from an unlikely source. If Atticus survives this time, he vows he won’t be fooled again. Famous last words.

If you could sum up Tricked in three words, what would they be?

    Super Audio Crack

Who was your favorite character and why?

Atticus, because he isnt perfect. Even after 2000+ years he still makes bonehead mistakes. I like that he isnt some perfect super hero. More down to earth and easier to identify with the character. Oh yeah and he has a cool dog.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Lucke does an excellent job just as he has done on the last 3 books. I especially like that he pronounces Asgard as (Ass Guard). Im not sure if this is doe on purpose but everytime it brings a smile to the little boy trapped inside me :-)

    Any additional comments?

Atticus & Oberon > Sookie Stackhouse. They deserve their own show. But I think BBC could do a better job of it then HBO. They would stay more true to the books and not try to add in there own lame ass ideas.

    "Another Hit"

I've been hooked on this series since I saw it on audible last year, and I gotta say that Kevin Hearne has exceeded my expectations in each of his books. You won't be disappointed.

"Excellent expansion of the Iron Druid Chronicles"
Would you listen to Tricked again? Why?

Absolutely! Each time something new a joke, a literary or mythological reference pops out and increases the enjoyment.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tricked?

It's hard to pick just one, but the betrayal sticks out in my mind as it creates a new arc in the story...it's completely unexpected yet how Atticus handles the situation educates the reader on how he has survived this long.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

The voices, the intonation, the pacing of the story is unique and so much better than when I read it in print. This maybe because only this one have I also read the print edition. After reading the print edition, I bought the audible version just to listen to Luke Daniels' interpretation of my favorite characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Definitely!

    Any additional comments?

I've read on Mr. Hearne's blog/website that he plans for 9 books (an important number in cycles, especially Irish) so I am eagerly awaiting books 5-9. I hope that if 9 ends the Iron Druid Chronicles that he will write another Cycle!

    "More Kevin!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would, and have. Kevin Hearne's books are wonderfully witty, and literally make me laugh out loud, which many books don't. His word play is brilliant.

What did you like best about this story?

That... is a hard question to answer. In short, it does a superb job of bridging story arcs.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Only to the first three Iron Druid Chronicles books, but his performance is, as ever, kicking butt. His voice for Oberon never fails to crack me up.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I more or less have. :)

    Any additional comments?

While the wait wasn't too long, as I only discovered this brilliant author a few months ago, it seemed interminable. I'm relieved the wait for the fifth book, Trapped, is only until November.

I should also note that I do not often write reviews, but this is a new author that I am deeply impressed with. If you like Neil Gaimen and Jim Butcher, you should like Kevin Hearne. Yes, he's that good.

"Can't get enough of this series!"

I am a mythology nerd, and this series has kept me enthralled. I love the relationship between Atticus and Oberon. These books are full of action, sharp wit, and comedy. I enjoyed the extra attention to Coyote in this one, he's one of my favorite gods in this series. The preview of the next book at the end was a tantalizing teaser, I can't wait for more!

"A Little Oberon Goes A Looong Way!"

Don't get me wrong! This is another fine entry in the Iron Druid series. I love that Coyote is back -- he's not called the Trickster for nothin'! And Atticus resolves his problems in the most interesting and entertaining ways! He doesn't have many friends to lose, so when one turns on him it is fairly devastating. I caught myself saying "What?!...No!" out loud to my iPod, but still...

As much as I love Oberon, he's like a potent spice and a little goes a long way. Tricked had just a little too much Oberon for my taste. He made me smile at the start of the book, but towards the end I was wishing he would just keep quiet.

If Hearne hasn't done it yet, maybe a short story or two from Oberon's perspective might help satisfy his - and fans - need for an Oberon fix.

Daniels does a good job, but, maybe because he had so much Oberon to do, I was starting to hear Scooby Doo towards the end.

    "An absolute must-read - even for non-fantasy-fans"
Would you listen to Tricked again? Why?

Absolutely. I think I missed a few nuances the first time around.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor. Kevin Hearne is a funny, funny, funny guy. The glimpse into Navajo traditions was interesting too.

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

Oberon. Amazing character - and Luke just nails it!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Never Trust a Trickster God.

    Any additional comments?

This book felt very much like a "bridge" story. The end of the last one, Hammered, was kind of epic, and you knew there were going to be some drastic changes in Atticus' life. Those changes aren't manifested in this book as much as I thought they would be; rather, this felt more like a setup for the next phase in Atticus' very long life - and in the lives of Granuaile and Oberon. That didn't make it any less enjoyable; rather, I'm glad Kevin didn't try to top the "epicness" of the last one. There's a teaser at the end of the book for the next one in the series, due out in seven months (squeeee!), and that teaser confirmed my suspicion. No spoilers, but it's COOL. @kevinhearne, you're my hero :-)

"Action packed, ball of laughs.with some sex appeal"

I have been listening to this series from the start, if you looking for an action packed barrel of laughs that will entertain you, and keep you laughing long after you are done, this is it!

This book has it all! Werewolf's, vampires, gods, demons, witches, and a talking Irish wolfhound thrown in for extra comic relief. This book has enough pop culture references to keep the oldest and youngest entertained for months.

The story flows from beginning to end so quickly that you will be highly annoyed when its over.
