Grievous Sin: A Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus Novel

Difficult to listen to this entire book. Didn't require any concentration at all. I put this book in the category of a "dime mystery novel" - Narration was good. If you listen to books while doing other tasks requiring concentration, then go ahead and burn a credit. Book seemed to drag on forever. Was sooooooooooo glad when I finished it.

I have read and enjoyed Faye Kellerman for years. This book is one of my favorites, but was very disappointed with the narration. Reminded me of a parent reading to a child. Not up to professional standards.

I like the story but the narrator does not accurately portray the characters. His sing song delivery of dialog doesn't match the intent and detracts from the book.

The family life is contrived, kind of cheesy and gets boring. The actual plot of the story was pretty good, but there was too much other fluff and nonsense to listen to in order to get it.

The lead characters are Jewish. Nothing wrong with that...interesting and informative somewhat, but there was a lot of derogatory remarks about Christians and Jesus. Totally unnecessary and offensive to me. I would not appreciate a book that makes fun of any religion. Seems kind of a foolish thing for an author to do...offended readers won't buy your books again At least I won't.

Narrator's voice just doesn't appeal to me.

Too much material that dragged the story out needlessly. A real bore and disappointment given Kellerman's reputation. It felt like someone had taken a short story and puffed it up until it could be sold as a novel.

His articulation is excellent, as is his pacing. Too bad he didn't have better material to work with.

Concept was good, but the execution, in my opinion, turned it into a poor potboiler.

I bought this book using the $5.00 sale audible had going on and though I've read plenty of books worse I still have to give it a low rating but only due to the numerous characters that popped up out of nowhere. I guess being a detective novel i maybe should have expected that but so many different ones entered the story out of the blue that I got completely confused at times all the way to the very end. I kept asking myself what have I missed during the first few chapters to not undrestand how this character got involved and "who the heck are they anyway?" The narrator did a good job though.

We listened to the book and loved it. We enjoyed the characters, even though we have not read the books in the order in which they were written. I am glad that we did not read the reviews of others before we purchased because we do not agree with the spoilers.

It's obvious early on that a baby will turn up missing from the hospital. But there are still plenty of surprises and the book is still hard to put down.

Decker’s teen age daughter, Cindy, joins the cast of characters in this novel. I can’t say she is a Mommy “wanta-be” as much as she is a typical teen who loves babies. I will say that hospital nurseries would not give her the privileges she has in this book. That is a BIG stretch.

Cindy does have her Dad’s genes in the police science realm, a sense of immortality, and a thirst for adventure like most teens. She is more refreshing than most teens. If anything, she is TOO good.

We enjoyed following the mystery of the enigmatic nurse, the missing baby, and the unidentified victim of a grisly murder.

The book has a lot going on.

No. I did finish it, but was anxious to get it done. How many times do we need to hear interesting dialog like "Thank you" he said. "you are welcome" she said? Also I get frustrated with whiney women and the whiney dialog was constant. I really don't need to hear details of a difficult birth for 3 hours.

I did like the plot; the mystery. It was creative but frustrated by blah, blah.

This was my first Faye Kellerman listen. I did not care for the character of Peter Decker. He seemed a little "goody goody" that was not realistic (maybe it was the narrator?).

I almost did not finish the book because the story line was not very good, and I did not care for the main character or the narrator.

The story line had potential, but as others have said, it was was dragged out.

Although there was enough of a plot to keep you interested, in the final analysis it was not really worth the time. The plot was too contrived and the LAPD detectives were completely unconvincing.

The most interesting aspect was the mystery, but its solution was the least interesting.

Mitchell Greenberg did a good job of differentiating the characters. However, it was not clear why some of them had NY accents.

Decker is not believable as either a cop or a guy who owns a ranch. Actually, he is not believable as a male character.
