Publisher's Summary

At last, the costly and bitter war between the two Foundations had come to an end. The scientists of the First Foundation had proved victorious; and now they return to Hari Seldon's long-established plan to build a new Empire that the Second Foundation is not destroyed after all - and that its still-defiant survivors are preparing their revenge.

Now the two exiled citizens of the Foundation - a renegade Councilman and the doddering historian-set out in search of the mythical planet Earth.... and proof that the Second Foundation still exists.

Meanwhile, someone - or something - outside of both Foundations seems to be orchestrating events to suit its own ominous purpose. Soon representatives of both the First and Second Foundations will find themselves racing toward a mysterious world called Gaia and a final shocking destiny at the very end of the universe!

I read perhaps 1 or 2 books a year before Audible. Now I listen to 1 or 2 books a month. I'm mostly listen to sci-fi, fantasy, and classics. I'm a software developer and tabletop game designer.

"Enjoyed it as much as the original trilogy"

I was worried to listen to this book, realizing it was written like 30 years after the first 3. But if I had not known that fact before hand, I would have never guessed it. The book doesn't miss a beat and feels consistent with the previous 3. I really enjoyed it. It was as good as the originals and in some ways better. The narrgator is top notch. It's a good mystery and kept me totally engaged. I was a little disappointed how it ended. Not that it was poorly done. It just sort of waterdowns the importance of the 2 foundations. But it was still interesting and well done. Looking forward to the next book. Sadly, it has a different narrator.

"Foundation books as a group are outstanding"
Would you consider the audio edition of Foundation's Edge to be better than the print version?

No. Reading lets the mind run wild where audio tells delivers the book in a way that lets you enjoy the book but as the reader tells it.

"well done...wish scott did the final book also"

This was a good listen...too bad the next book in the series: 'foundation and earth'- it was great book---the climax the foundation series...but what a brutal listen. Scott Brick did a fine job with other foundation books, and he should've did the final book also.

I have listened to much of the Dune series also...all very good esp 'Dune.'
Scott Brick did much of it also, and was good. Simon Vance as the narrator in 'Dune' is a real treat-- he is probably one of my favorites...in any of his narrations.

It is a continuation of the Foundation story that combines Seldon's plan of "Psychohistory" with the underlying premise of robotics. Scott Brick reads well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Foundation's Edge?

The decision to go to Gaia instead of Trantor

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Golan Trevize

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    The Search for Earth

    "Loved it."
Would you listen to Foundation's Edge again? Why?

Sure. It is the second time I have read or listen to it, because it is a great story.

What other book might you compare Foundation's Edge to and why?

There is a similar scope like the Dune series, but with a more specific edge to it. Where Dune and Foundation deal with galaxy wide issue, area, and history. Foundation does it in the context of a few characters, but Dune is multi-character. Love em both.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes and he is always great.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Treves makes his choice for Galaxia.

    Any additional comments?

    none

    "Long, but keeps listener interested."
If you could sum up Foundation's Edge in three words, what would they be?

    Long, Intersting, unexpexted

What other book might you compare Foundation's Edge to and why?

The other bookies in the series

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just enough voice "acting" to be able to tell the characters apart.

"Asimov should have stopped at the Trilogy"
What would have made Foundation's Edge better?

If it was like the first three novels, a collection of short stories that are linked.

What was most disappointing about Isaac Asimov’s story?

Asimov destroyed the excellent web of stories that is the Foundation series.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?

Scott Brick is excellent as always.

What character would you cut from Foundation's Edge?

    Guia

    Any additional comments?

The book seems to have been written under duress from the publisher, so Asimov decided to make certain the Foundation was destroyed.
