"Couldn't finish it"
Even though I have previously listened to (and enjoyed) Rosenberg's work, and even though I am an evangelical (and therefore would likely be the target market for the book), I too was disappointed that this was Christian fiction after not having been billed as such. If I wanted to hear prayer and scripture references, I would have bought books on the subjects (as I often do). But that's not what I thought I was getting. I gave this one several chances, and it just couldn't hook me...while at the same time pushing the Christian angle very hard. This felt like Christian fiction written with a Hal Lindsey mindset. Just not something I was interested in. Disappointed.

"Rosenberg does it again - couldn't put it down!"
I've listened to all of Rosenberg's political fiction and have enjoyed every book. If you haven't listened toThe Twelfth Imam, I recommend that you get it first as this one is a sequel, continuing the adventures of CIA asset David Shirazi. Shirazi, born in the US to Iranian parents who fled the revolution, infliltrates Iran at the highest levels and uncovers a terrible plot which he works hard to subvert. The Twelfth Imam, or Madi (sp.) has formed a caliphate consisting of most middle eastern countries. While posing as a religious figure, it's obvious he has nothing but evil on his mind, including the destruction of Israel and western society. This book, like other Rosenberg thrillers will hold your attention and make it difficult to get any sleep as you won't want to stop listening....The narrator was very good, using different accents and handling male and female voices equally well. Get it now!

"Very Good Overall but...."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?I would but with a warning. It got a bit too deep into religious discussion for my liking. I understand explaining the thoughts behind the various Middle Eastern religions because there are many things I may not have known, but the preaching about the Christian faith was too much preaching to the choir.
What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?I always listen before I buy because I have to like the person reading. He handled all of the various accents well and made the book more pleasurable in my opinion.
Did The Tehran Initiative inspire you to do anything?No but it did bring back memories of being in the private, religious school of my youth.
Any additional comments?It was a very interesting study of the mindset of the regions portrayed and the thought process before various actions. It was a thought provoking book but as mentioned before, too much religion for my liking. I did like the way it ended - it wasn't a pat, expected way to end.

"Great listen!"
I've really enjoyed this listen. The performance is top notch! Yes, I was concerned when the quotes from various scriptures started showing up, but I found the author using them to broaden my understanding of some of the characters and their motivations. Whether I like it or not, this is real life, and it is unusual to capture this spiritual essense of characters in a novel.
The reader puts this book over the top. Not only does he attempt various international accents, but his characters's tone and inflection are almost always spot on.
Christian fiction? Way to good a story for that box.
This was my first "political suspense" listen, and I'll be looking for more, especially with this reader!18 of 23 people found this review helpful -

"UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Would you try another book from Joel C. Rosenberg and/or Christopher Lane?Have read Mr. Rosenberg before and enjoyed his books, but this was more than anticipated. I did not expect or enjoy 13 hours of proselytizing. Mr. Lane was excellent.
Would you ever listen to anything by Joel C. Rosenberg again?probably not

"Interesting Plot but way to much Jesus!"

"should be categorized as " Religious"."
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?A CIA agent on a covert mission discovers Jesus ,weeps and quotes the Bible.Its Jesus against the evil Muslims.The plot is sanctamonious Medievil Christian hypocracy.

"Exciting!"
This is so good. When our main character, David, goes back into Iran, knowing the dangers if he is found out, it is riveting. I held my breath in anticipation of what could be. I don't know if I would be that brave. I am so glad that there will be another book and can't wait to listen to it! Joel C. Rosenberg hits the nail on the head when he presents this as a war of Principalities.
