"Montalbano - The Shrewd Prankster!"
This was my first Inspector Montalbano book and it was a delight. The characters are great and Montalbano is very humorous but also shrewd.
Grover Gardner is quickly becoming my favorite narrator. I love any book he does.
This particular book won the Crime Writer Association's International Dagger Award for 2012 and it was well deserved. The story is rich and layered and fun to follow along with the investigation as it progresses.0 of 0 people found this review helpful -
"slow starter"
Where does The Potter’s Field rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?The performance was terrific. Grover Gardner does various Italian voices with style. The plot is slow to start, but is pretty good if you can hang in there past the first several hours. I had to stop several times out of boredom and annoyance.This book could have used a more picky editor. There must be a different phrase in Italian that was translated into"busting my balls" in English. It was over used, used incorrectly, and was amazingly annoying.
Would you recommend The Potter’s Field to your friends? Why or why not?There are much better books by the same author that I would recommend first.
Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?He is really good. One of the best.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?Not possible. There were several times when I couldn't take the slow plot development and had to stop. I only started again because I had paid for the book and did not have another audible book available.

"Not so good"
This book was a disappointment. I really didn't lilke the narration which, at the very least, should have been done in a faux Italian accent. I certainly didn't like the gruesome aspects of the story. A really good writer can get the image across without using such graphic description. I would not buy any other books by this author or narrator. It was just not a good experience. I do feel that the publisher's description of the book was misleading.
