Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.
Now, a year later, the Mighty Dragon and his companions must overcome their differences and recover from their own scars to protect the thousands of survivors sheltered in their film studio-turned-fortress, the Mount. The heroes lead teams out to scavenge supplies, keep the peace within the walls of their home, and try to be the symbols the survivors so desperately need. For while the ex-humans walk the streets night and day, they are not the only threat left in the world, and the people of the Mount are not the only survivors left in Los Angeles. Across the city, another group has grown and gained power. And they are not heroes.

"A great read if you like heroes or zombies!"
Ok, I am writing to recomend this book to anyone who can lose themselves in a new world.
I loved it.
It has a great mix of superheros, their origins, classic coming of age sections, along with the end of the world. I like the way zombies come to be.
I have read the second book as well and it only gets better.
If you are someone who likes to follow characters over more than one book I can reccomend this one for sure.
Full of realistic dialogue and some great pop culture references, this book says what we all would be thinking if the zombies started taking over.
I can’t recommend it enough
The cast gives a great audio performance and never crosses into the dreaded "Acting" that seems to hurt some audio books.
Great job Mr. Clines.
"Zombie Apocolypse, Super Heros in LA"
So I needed a quick book for a trip I had coming up. This was on my recommend page, and being a 'hero' fan I read the description. 'Super Heroes... blah blah blah... Zombie Apocalypse... blah blah...' I finished reading the summary and thought this book sounded dumb... very dumb. But I listened to the preview and was very impressed by the both the readers, and thought that its a small price for a couple of hours, besides the reviews were high. While the story plot is over the top cliche, which is even mentioned by the characters in the book, but this only helps drive the story. The character development and interaction makes this book totally worth it. You find yourself laughing, and rooting for the characters every step of the way. Clines does a great job of just plopping you into the story with no real idea whats going on, and letting it unfold around you with the 'Then' and 'Now' chapters. Its worth the listen if you are any type of comic book hero fan.
"There will be more!!!!!!!!!"
I found this book in the ad they had here on Audible & I have listened to it 2 times so far! Great characters, great story, great narration, great delivery and totally stoked for more. Ex Patriots was great as well, Peter Clines did one helluva job!!!!!!
"Excellent"
Just had to type a quick review this book has two of my favs Heroes and Zombies. Peter Clines crafts these two concepts pretty damn well. You will not be disappointed with your listen add this to queue and sit back and enjoy. Can't wait to listen to the sequel!
"Ex-tremely listenable"
Zombies v. Super Herpes - what more could you want?
This was a good, fun listen. I liked the back story, and although at first the multiple narrators through me, I was able to get used to it quickly. It would make a great film, I don't know if some less-imaginative types might struggle with the action scenes.
A nice change from the disappointing rubbish I've been downloading!
"WOW! What a pleasant surprise!"
I read the plot summary for this book and thought "CRAP". Later I downloaded it just to have something in my ear while I did yard work. BAM! This book was great! It turned a refreshing corner in the genre. I was like "superheroes, really?" Yes really! It was somehow...feasible! It was like the X Men trying to hold it together after the planet got its ass kicked by the undead. Then to make matters worse, we have a gang problem. The only thing I didn't like about this book was its length (too short) and the fact there isn't a sequel on Audible. If you are looking for a life altering classic treatise on the human condition... keep moving. If you want to have fun, look no further.
"Heroes we can really root for...."
So happy to find my favorite zombie book on Audible! The voice actors are pretty close to sounding like these characters do in my head when I read the book. It's really cool hearing this come to life. What a fun story, with heroes that are actually "heroic," the way comic book heroes used to be. I often find that post-apocalyptic stories are too cynical and bleak for my taste, but this one is actually kind of hopeful...the sort of story you want to read all over again after you finish it.
I was first introduced to audiobooks during a summer when I decided to drive a truck in order to pay for college. Listening to books all day, every day was the only thing that made that job bearable.
"Like Cookies and Milk"
Without a doubt. Ex-Heroes is exciting from beginning to end. Not only is this book teeming with action, but Clines separated the story into "Now" and "Then" segments in order to break things up and keep it interesting. There isn't enough time to get bored or even catch your breath while reading.
Stealth. She's the team leader who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. Because of this she appears cold and distant, but she just takes her job seriously.
Khristine Hvam's portrayal of Banzai really stood out. Banzai is only a minor character with a very small part to play, but Khristine brought a personality to the character that helped me to grow attached to her almost immediately, making her small role much more powerful.
The explanation for how the zombie plague began. It was so simple, but Clines wrote it well. I don't know how much I can say without spoiling a major plot reveal, but it fit perfectly within this story and challenged the way I felt about a number of different characters.
Zombies and Super-Heroes just go together. This book works.
"Excellent story, concept, writing, and performance"
Past, Presence, Zombies
Excellent blending of 2 genres that normally don't go together.
The flashback of the demon's last moments before turning
It takes the best and the worst of us to survive.
"Not Bad"
This wasn't the greatest zombie book ever, but there wasn't any standout bad parts either. The narration was good, the story interesting, but it wasn't the kind of book you try to find chores to do so you can listen more. I would still rate Day by Day Armageddon and the Morningstar books higher that this one. That being said, this book has action, zombies, and superheroes. What more can I say, other than I am glad I didn't use a credit for it?
