Hailed by literary critics as the inventor of modern-day horror, H. P. Lovecraft is the cultivating force behind such modern writers as Robert Bloch, Wes Craven and Stephen King. The Dark Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft, Volume One is a collection of his best-known tales narrated for the first time by Wayne June and includes both "The Dunwich Horror" (published in the summer of 1926) and "The Call of Cthulhu" (published in the summer of 1928).

"Wayne June... his deep raspy voice is used to good effect for all the narration." (SFFAudio.com)
"Excellent Series for those who love Lovecraft..."
This release and the whole series is new, well produced, and provides an excellent medium for those who enjoy H.P. Lovecreaft. There are a total of six albums in the series, although Audible has five on sale.
If you are a follower of Lovecraft you know how difficult it is to get solid, well recorded audio books into the library. This is the path. Their principal reader, Wayne June is quite balanced: with clarity and no strong sense of being a goul, as some other readers are.
The recordings are priced about right for non-Audible-credits payers. I doubt that one 3-hour download is worth a full credit (which can be worth a full 20 hour download for other recordings). My suggestion: Since there are an even number of books available, have a two-for one sale.
"Narrator is amazing"
I've loved Lovecraft for a long time, but I feel like I'm experiencing it for the first time hearing it read by Wayne June. He has an incredible grasp of how to do character voices. He brings the lushness of Lovecraft's prose to life. Passages that I must admit I've found boring when read on the page become genuinely creepy when read aloud by June's cultured, insinuating rasp. I'll be listening to this one over and over.
A lover of quirky stories and characters.
"Creepy and Compeling"
Two Words. One Name. Wayne June. This guy could read the phone book and make it scary.
The Climax of The Dunwhich Horror really stands out, the whole story builds and builds and the dread grows and grows. It's amazing.
Everything. Just re-read the top, that's it.
Not originally, but once Mr. June's voice started in I just could not turn it off.
For any fans of H.P. Lovecraft this entire series is a must have.

"Chilling!"
Dark, dreamy, the stuff nightmares are made of.
Lovecraft is classic horror with rich American heritage flavor. Visit a town so far off any normal path the natives are already frightening, even before darker visitors move it. And chase the dreams of a list of madmen to discover a secret so dark it can't be mentioned.
A host of modern-day horror talents tip their hats to this brilliant original master.
Want to add a chilling challenge to your delight? Listen with the lights off.
"Matter of Fact Lovecraft"
Wayne June reads two of Lovecraft's best-executed stories in the tone of a staid man of common sense, say a business manager or a pedantic scholar, who has been brought unwillingly to believe in strange and terrible things. His approach underlines Lovecraft's strengths while covering his faults. An excellent afternoon's entertainment.

"This is it: The two GREATEST Horror stories!"
These are the best of H.P. Lovecraft's genius, mind blowing, dark universe mythos. No other horror writer has yet come up to his level of perfection since.
I would compare it to
Nothing can exchange the personal experience of reading, but Mr June has a great voice, and is a wonderful reader.
Wilbur - Here H. P. Lovecraft shows us the thing that should not be. Chilling!
These are the best two horror stories since Poe. H. P. Lovecraft changed horror fiction forever with these stories. As a young reader they rocked my world! - and they still have all their power. No one has come close to Lovecraft's genius yet.

"Fantastic, bother story and reader"
Two of Lovecraft's best known classic stories are given a horrific, terrifying life in this reading. While I feel the exquisite disquiet that Lovecraft's best works cause are best felt from reading the stories oneself, Wayne June does an amazing job with these stories. I look forward to getting the rest of the collection!
"Yes, Lovecraft readers, you will love this!"
I confess that I am new to audiobooks, and this was my first purchase from audible.com. I'm a long-time fan of HPL, reading not only his fiction and essays, but also delving into HPL's letters, in-depth biographies, and literary criticism.
LISTENING to Lovecraft is quite a different experience than READING Lovecraft. I found myself much more immersed in the prose style and word usage than ever before. I was not overly fond of "The Dunwich Horror" prior to hearing it read by Wayne June. He has an excellent voice for Lovecraft - firm and gravelly, with just a hint of being "wound too tight." I look forward to purchasing more from him in the future.
"Great!"
This one was my first audiobook, first I enjoy Lovecraft's stories and the passionate review from Erica get me in, and the experience was a total awesome trip into to the universe of HPL. I thought that audiobooks worked the audio track at the same time you can read the text, I don't know if that format exist (I guess they will charge both items?) but anyway I grab my old paperback and enter to the realm of the Cthulhu Myths, cause I'not a natural English speaker was a cool way of revisit the book and a whole new experience hearing the feeling of the narrator and in your imagination you could develop a new atmosphere to approach to this books. Enjoy!
