Mariana

When I first started listening to this book I struggled with the constant changes in time, but as the book progressed and I relaxed into the story I revelled in all the twists and turns. Mariana is a book that you can't multi-task with - it demands full concentration - a lapse of a few minutes will leave you wondering just what happened and how you missed it. It is a book that needs to be read a couple of times to fully understand and appreciate its underlying intricacies. The narration of the book is excellent and flows easily around each character.

I honestly can't say which I liked better the story or the narrator. Some how I feel that the narrator does play a huge part in ones opinion of any book, and Carolyn Bonnyman has a lovely soft voice that not only leaves you relaxed but so much more involved in the book.
This is my third Susanna Kearsley book and I read them all in a one go cause I found her to be so enchanting.

I am never disappointed by Susanna Kearsley. Her writing is superb! There is always some mystery woven into the romance. With an ending to make any Jane Austin Lover swoon.

Although purchasing the Book originally for my Wife, I decided to have a break from my usual Seafaring & Crime Audiobooks.
Well! What a surprise this one turned out to be!
Carolyn Bonnyman's intimate reading style made me feel that she was sitting opposite me over a cup of coffee and telling me this tale in an almost whispered voice!
Her ability to enhance the somewhat eerie setting just with her voice was quite captivating.
Although I would not normally have selected such a Book for myself, I am so glad I did!

I really enjoyed this book, the voices were great and the story so engaging I hated having to put it down.

I came to work with puffy eyes after staying up far too late listening to this lovely story. I just couldn't stop.

I have read a few of Susanna Kearsley's books.
I find the plots to be quite similar, nothing new. I know what is going to happen before it happens. In other words, I get bored of her books as they follow the same form.
No more of this author for me. Too many other author's out there who really mix it up!

I did not appreciate the way the reader kept her voice to a hushed (Gothic) tone which often had me turning up the volume to hear the finer points of the story. I prefer a more ordinary narration tone leaving the story itself to create the tension and the atmosphere and allowing lighter moments to emerge above the darker tones.

I am going to try out the author's books written as Emma Cole and avoid the narrator for now.
