Jane Eyre remains a classic of 19th-century English literature and is the most famous and influential novel by Charlotte Bronte.
Published in 1847, one of the most popular of all English novels, the story tells of the rise of a poor orphan girl against overwhelming odds. It is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes exploring themes that have as much relevance today as in the time it was written.
British novelist Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855) was the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters whose novels have become standards of English literature.

"Magnificent"
I enjoyed this as much as, or more than, any other audiobook I've ever listened to. High praise, but it's true. It's a perfect marriage of writer and narrator. The story itself is enthralling: Jane is a feisty heroine, a survivor with a difference: she's adaptable and assertive and completely without the sense of self-pity that usually accompanies the "survivor" label. The novel has everything: staggeringly well-written scenes, totally believable characters, haunting atmosphere, beautiful descriptions of the natural world.
Lucy Scott, as far as I can tell, hasn't done much in the audiobook line, but she's no novice. She's the actress who played Charlotte Lucas in the "Colin Firth" version of "Pride and Prejudice" in 1995. Her performance here is absolutely flawless, at times heartbreaking and at times giddy with excitement and joy. A wonderful listen. Don't miss it. Really. Download it and listen to it even if you think you hate Victorian fiction. You won't after you hear this one.
"Wonderful Book, Fantastic Reader"
Lucy Scott is a marvel as Jane Eyre. This is one of the best-read classic novels I've ever heard on audiobook. Scott brings the characters of Charlotte Bronte to life, especially Eyre. The novel itself is a timeless mixture of romance, psychological portrait, and social commentary. I can't recommend this one highly enough.
"good listen"
I really enjoyed this audio book. The reader was enjoyable to listen to. Her timing and inflections carried me along with the story, and made me feel like I was part of the tale.
The book Jane Eyre has a good storyline and is a great read. I find the book moving... At times I found myself in tears, and then exhaulting at the happy moments.
Definately worth the credit.
Hey Audible, don't raise prices and I promise to buy lots more books.
"Extraordinary and Beautiful"
What new and enlightening could possibly be added to reviews about Jane Eyre that has not already been written. Most people read this book early in their education. Luckily this was not my experience because had I read it earlier, I might not have thought to return to it later in life only to appreciate it even more.
I think that many books are not appreciated because of their narrators. Thank you Audible for having multiple renditions by different narrators. I was able to listen to samples and read reviews about each. I finally settled on the reading by Lucy Scott and I believe I could not have been more pleased. This selection was absolutely spectacular. Listening to Ms Scott's voice is like listening to music. Her narration of the voice of Mr Rochester almost immediately, without strain or stretch, has you hearing the voice of a gentleman.
Looking at the reviews of all the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen, we find that they are mostly by women. I can only conclude that books of this ilk are mostly read and appreciated by women. As one of the opposite gender I can only say that there is much to recommend here to my brothers as well as sisters. I could not recommend a book or narrator more highly. The two together are extraordinary and beautiful.
"Loved It"
I was not sure about listening to this in the unabridged format, but I absolutely loved it. Once I was in I had to keep listening to find out. One of my New Year's Resolutions was to discover the classics, and I have just loved this and Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice. I plan on listening to all the Bronte sisters. Wuthering Heights is next.
"You won't err with Jane Eyre"
I bought this book for my wife; she has read the book many times. Since it was on my iPod, I thought, "What the heck. I bought it, I might as well listen to it." Never having read Jane Eyre, I did not know what to expect. I discovered a delightful narration and pleasant story. Lucy Scott did a wonderful job of reading the book. She made my daily commute to-and-from work something I actually looked forward to.
"Wonderful"
I have recently started running again after a several year break from the activity. To entertain and distract myself I decided I would listen to some of the "classics" while I am hitting the pavement ... this was WONDERFUL! The story is amazing (no surprise) but the narration is also WONDERFUL! Lucy Scott's narration, her ability to bring characters to life through her voice and speach made the story even so much better! Thank You!
"Wonderful rendition"
this narrator's voice is very pleasant to listen to. i thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end......once you start listenning you can't stop.
what a delight.......the right emotion at the right time.....I will definitly listen to Lucy Scott again! please narrate more books.
"Fantastic"
This book is fantastic! My new favorite. And Lucy Scott really brought it to life. I was disappointed to see that she hasn't narrated many other books for Audible- I wanted to listen to her narrate all the classics!
I'm a mom of two kids that I homeschool. I first got into audiobooks to keep my children quiet and have peace in the car. Now we're hooked!
"Couldn't Put It Down"
I think Lucy Scott did an excellent job narrating this book. It is, of course, a wonderful book. One of my all-time favorites. She was wonderfully consistent and pleasant to listen to. Her accent was perfect and easily understood. I definitely got more out of listening to the book than I did reading it years ago. A great audio version! Highly recommended!
