"Fun for PC"
Being a recent PC "adder" to Apple and a new Power Mac G5 owner, I came across this show via my monthly Audible subscription. After a couple of months, I've now purchased a full year's subscription so I can try out other subscriptions while enjoying this show every week. Whether you're an "adder" like me, or a "switcher" who has gone cold turkey with PC's and moved entirely to the Apple platform, you will have a lot of fun with this program! Shawn, Jay, Lesa & Sly combine technical info. and the latest Apple news, graphic tips, gaming info., handy tips and tricks with an engaging humor that will make you smile and brighten your day. What I've found most impressive is how they really engage with the community that follows their show every week around the world - they are very personable and will take the time to connect with you, making the experience much more interactive. It is 2 1/2 hours that I look forward to each and every week!
"An awesome all-around show!"
I have been listening to Shawn King and the various permutations of his show since his humble beginnings recording the show in his apartment in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the years the show has gone through many changes - changes in structure, co-hosts, location, and now in how the show is distributed. Shawn consistently gets interesting and informative guests that cover a phenomenal range of interests and activities. He leaves no stone unturned in his quest for the best guests, and the most accurate news in the Mac Community, and a truly entertaining delivery. He is a consummate "every-man" who doesn't come across as a stuffed shirted windbag or Techno-know-it-all, and always does his best to talk *with* his audience and not *down to* them. I love how he opens the mic to anybody who wants to call in - from anywhere in the world no less - and offers them a soapbox to ask questions, proffer assistance, clarify the muddy, and even just say "hi". Shawn is a genuinely, and supremely nice guy who's only purpose is to deliver the finest, most accurate and entertaining Macintosh news, discussion, and entertainment available on the Internet today - a mission he succeeds at in SPADES, every WEEK! Additionally, I like the online chats that accompany the live show, and the email discussion list and web-based forums on the show's site. The community that surrounds the show is outstanding and engaging, and the first place I go when I have questions regarding my Mac. No matter the realm or the expertise, there is somebody there who can either answer your question, or find someone who can. Even on totally non-Macintosh related topics!! The wealth of experience, friendliness, and honest sense of community is one of the show's greatest assets, and I think Shawn's no-nonsense, even-keeled attitude makes the show such a pleasure to listen to. It?s one of the few things I look forward to every week. Keep up the great work Shawn, Jay, Wally, Sly, & Company!
"Best of its type"
Obviously, if you're not a Mac owner or if you're just a casual user, this show is probably not for you. But if you're interested in getting more out of your Apple computer or want to get more involved in the Mac community, this show is well worth checking out.
It's two and a half hours, but it never lags or gets bogged down in "tech-speak." You'll get the latest Apple-related news (and many perspectives on it), introductions to some of the best and hottest new products, troubleshooting tips and a lot of laughs. In fact, for me, the highlight of the show isn't the techie stuff at all, but the interplay between the great personalities that you hear week in and week out.
Great show! Very professionally done.
"Glad they are finally here."
Your Mac Life is more than a great, informative, funny show. It's a community. Listeners don't feel like listeners. They feel like members of a friendly User Group. I have been a Mac Owner and user for over a decade, but it wasn't until I started listening to YML that I became part of the community.
And besides that, I learn about all sorts of cool products through the show.
Actually, I first learned about Audible from YML. :-)
"Not too techie!"
A great show which isn't too serious, often funny and never too techie for any novice computer users.
"My 5 month old loves his Uncle Shawn"
Every single week, my 5 month old son and I spend some quality time together listening to the archive of "Your Mac Life". My son sqeeks and coo's when he hears Shawn's voice come though the speakers from my iPod. This just goes to show you that YML is suitable for all ages, and can be enjoed by all. If I have to stop the show, my son gets fussy.
"Entertaining and Informative"
Great show, good variety of guest, helpful tech support, insightful news. The 2 and half hour show goes buy very quickly.
"Comes up short: Try 1 month instead ..."
I regret going against the grain here, since the Mac community should be well served by a show such as Your Mac Life -- but I have paid for a year's subscription and now wish that I had not. For the amount of information they contain the shows I've listened to are too long and are sometimes painfully drawn out and linked with humour that is often less than funny. Hey, I'm all for a bit of fun when it works and when it's spontaneous -- but not as a laborious device to fill in for obvious programming shortfalls. The brief sample (all of 4 minutes and 59 seconds out of a two-and-a-half hour show) you can hear before making your purchase is way too short for you to know this. You'll then have the dilemma of paying $44.95 for the whole year or $9.95 for just a month. Seems to me the cost/risk benefits weigh in for taking the year -- which I did. But if you have any doubts after listening to the sample, I'd suggest you try this show for just one month instead. Shawn & Co. either need to condense the current show into an under an hour or substantially bulk up the factual content.
"Great stuff!"
The entire cast of characters on this show is fantastic! News and info about the Macintosh culture...not just the "mac-macs".
