All the Weyrs of Pern: Dragonriders of Pern

If I hadn't already read this book in print and knew that it was worth the read, I might not have been able to make it through. Mel Foster is NO Dick Hill and I found him very difficult to listen to. His halting reading compelled me to listen to the book at 1 &1/2 speed. It sounds more natural that way.

Other than that Anne McCaffrey never disappoints :)

the story is great as most of mccaffrey's works but this guy is terrible. Especially after hearing Dick Hill's narration of the previous books. This guy doesn't get the characters at all...he should have heard the previous versions to get the inflections correct.

The print is superior in so many ways.

Not at all witht his narrator. I loved the book itself but found I kept getting upsset with the way Mel depicted important characters.

I love the story---all the Pern stories and it might bring me back. But the performance is abysmal. For anyone who knows Pern the treatment the Master Harper gets from Foster is...heartbreaking. He sounds like a drunken parody of some campy vaudevillian not the wise and wonderful man he is. Why oh why not have Dick Hill who did the earlier books wonderfully do this one??

It's one of the more exciting Pern books, it ends a saga. I'm not sure there is a reason to compare it....

Absolutely nothing...it was awful. I never thought you could over act an audio book but he did...a combination of Mary Tyler Moore's Ted Baxter and a very eager high school sophomore trying to bring a new level of angst to The Glass Menagerie. He ruined the book!

The whole book has moved me for years, Mel Foster's performance is an insult to Anne McCaffery's fine writing

I'm always partial to Jaxom and Ruth.
I preferred Dick Hill's narration The White Dragon & The Skies of Pern more than Mel Foster's narration of All the Weyers of Pern. Dick has a better Character Voices & a better Character Voice Memory. But a good narration just the same.

I laughed and cried. Even though I've read the story 3 times before.
Anne McCaffrey writes such Epic Novels!

Well worth the listen. I'll listen many more times. I already have all the book & I'm working on getting every Audible Pern book available.

Something about the narration is off a little bit or maybe I'm just prejudiced to Dick Hill's narration style. Hard to tell the difference between the characters but the story line is pretty good

I loved this story, although the Narration was a liltte off of Character from the last book. (Mostly reader perspective i think) The story was awsome and I would recommend it.

When I styarted listening to the books on audio, I was soooo looking forward to hearing this lst book. I feel as if I have finished the series but I know there are more books out there. I like Ann Mc Carthey as an arthor and will look for her other books. Sometimes I think I would like to live on Pern but then there were alot of problems. The whole series was excelent and the readings weren't to bad either. I liked the fact that Ann wrote books depicting the same event from different points of views.

I have loved this book for years and couldn't wait for it to come out on audio.. but the narrator was terrible. He made Piemur sound like an idiot, and Master Robinton like a slow witted imbecile. I was very disappointed and could hardly tolerate listening to the end.

The way the story of Jaxom is brought to a final crescendo and how the 'runt' dragon became the savior of all Pern due to his unique abilities.

I did not like his pronunciation of the names. He obviously did not check on the proper pronunciation and winged it. He did seem to have a better range to his voice to differentiate characters a bit better than the previous narrator.

All the weyrs of Pern amass to save Pern.

This is one of my favorite books in a much loved series and It was wonderful to hear it narrated.

This book did a wonderful job wrapping up not just the events of this time period, but it ties together the culmination of the goals that were set forth when thread first fell on the original colonists.

I think the most memorable moment for me was the last few minutes of the book. Showing how Master Robinton was so beloved by everyone on Pern and the honor that even the dragons afforded him really left an impression for me.

While I preferred Dick Hill's performance of the characters, I think Mel Foster actually performed F'lar the best. In this later book, he and Lessa feel like they are an aging pair and I think Mel gives F'lar that little bit of old man crochetyness that I would expect him to have, with all of Pern's worries resting on his shoulders for so long.

A time to every purpose under heaven.

I began listening to the Pern books a couple of years ago and have slowly built my library to include most of them. The entire series is just so epic, I have probabaly listened to each book at least twice and never get tired of the story. Each book/set of books is enthralling from beginning to end.
